Imperial Guard FAQ for 5th Edition

Postby Spack » Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:33 pm

GW have posted an FAQ for the latest IG codex, available here: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... d_2009.pdf

Nice to see some of the most argued points clarified here. Hellstrikes are indeed not blast weapons, hotshot lasguns are not lasguns for FRFSRF, can't issue orders in opponent's Shooting phase. Nice to see the Valk issue handled too - use the base for disembark/embark and contesting, so no more arguing that passengers can't get out :D And the whole GK Termies in Valks debate is dead too, finally!

see they have this out quick enough, what about one for the lesser supported codexs?

why cant GW just round up the big posters/owners of fan sites into a online debate and knock out some FAQS? get the customer involved, this would be a awesome step in the hobby, the fans building the game?

They sort of did that with some of the older FAQs, they pulled a few of them from the INAT FAQs put together by Yakface and a few others for Adepticon. Matt and a few others tried with Warseer to pull together better FAQs, but without support from either GW or a major tourney these things seem to fall apart. I agree it would be good for GW to take FAQs from some of the big sites and pull them together into uber FAQs, but it's unlikely to ever happen.

What lesser support codex are you looking for a new FAQ for? All of them got updated when 5th ed came out, and a few got adjusted since then too.

So does this mean enemy models can move under the valkyrie so long as they stay 1" away from its base?
Sorry, not looking to open a can of worms, I know this was a heated debate on a few forums. :|

Yes to your question Timewizard. (If you play me of course).
Good errata /FAQ. Sorts out all the stupidity. I was wrong with special characters upgrades being allowed as allies, but right on the money concerning which units could be used.

Yes, so long as those models remain more than 1" away from the hull and the base :)

Holy Emperor's velveteen toilet paper!

A good FAQ, that answers questions, that people have actually been asking?

Either GW are listening, or this is the prelude to some serious thought-control...

While GW state that, I'd be surprised if anyone in a game started disallowing the FAQ part. And if they did, I guess they won't be playing ...

To be honest Tim, FAQ bits are official clarifications to the rules. As the are indeed written down on the Errata document, surely they are written rules? :icon_tongue

As a side note, I've only just noticed what a huge selection of smilies we have!

GW themselves say in the Shrine of Knowledge that the FAQ answers are more akin to houserule suggestions than official rules (its probably so they can dodge any criticism over them...).

They also state that the rules are more guidelines rather than rules ... but most people will use the rules, and the FAQs, because otherwise it makes the game unplayable :P
