Incoming! Spearhead

Postby mattjgilbert » Mon Mar 15, 2010 2:47 pm

From GW email:

Gather your tanks and ready your lascannons – in June the pages of White Dwarf magazine and games-workshop.com join forces to bring you a whole new expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Spearhead.

Spearhead is a new way to play Warhammer 40,000 that enables you to unleash exciting tank battles and daring breakthrough missions on the table top, bringing the full mechanised fury of the 41st Millennium to bear in your games. June's White Dwarf will contain the main part of the supplement, including new rules, missions and plenty of inspirational hobby advice. Alongside this, games-workshop.com will feature additional material for registered members such as details for how to assemble your Spearhead formations along with even more painting, modelling and collecting tips.

As if a whole new Expansion wasn't exciting enough, it's going to be accompanied by a range of new miniatures including some stunning new plastic kits – more details of these kits, and the Spearhead Expansion, will follow in May's issue of White Dwarf and on games-workshop.com in due time.

My bets are on a Stormraven kit making an appearance, along with perhaps a new Leman Russ kit and a Predator recut if I was putting money on it.

My stupid money would want a plastic Thunderhawk (c'mon GW, you know you want to!).

From the movie "Kelly's Heroes, 1970

Oddball: This engine's been modified by our mechanical genius here, Moriarty. Right?
Moriarty: Whatever you say, babe. [giggles]
Oddball: These engines are the fastest in any tanks in the European Theater of Operations, forwards or backwards. You see, man, we like to feel we can get out of trouble, quicker than we got into it.
Kelly: [looking skeptical] Got any other secret weapons?
Oddball: Well, yeah, man, you see, like, all the tanks we come up against are bigger and better than ours, so all we can hope to do is, like, scare 'em away, y'know. This gun is an ordinary 76mm but we add this piece of pipe onto it, and the Krauts think, like, maybe it's a 90mm. We got our own ammunition, it's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes... pretty pictures. Scares the hell outta people! We have a loudspeaker here, and when we go into battle we play music, very loud. It kind of... calms us down

I'm glad it will just be a white dwarf thing (not sure I can be bothered to spend £40 on a book that modifys mech edition 40k to be slightly more mech).

I think the sad thing is...(lament on) remember when white dwarf used to have expansions to gaming systems regularly (waaaayy back in the day) now if they are going to actually give away any rules or expansions for free they need 4 months of build up and hype?
Might buy first white dwarf in 18 years :D

Might be the first one I buy in many many years too (I did buy 300 and 305/306 - whichever had the Deathwatch rules in - , prior to that 234 was the last I bought)

w00t !

Well with all that stuff, battle missions and then that, all I have to do is to quit my job to fully dedicate myself to 40k :D

(money could be an issue, then :|)

EDIT : hmm, I wonder how this will play for nids players ...

Simple. You put all your tanks on the table. The nids put all their tanks on the table. First one with no tanks left on the table loses!

In that case, if I were a nid player, I would insist that the tanks were put very definately right on the table.

So you'd cover it in terrain then claim the tanks weren't actually on the table when deployed in said terrain ;)
