Incoming Tyranids!

Postby timewizard » Mon Sep 28, 2009 2:46 pm

Hi all,
Just saw this on GWs website.
Confirmed that a new Tyranid Codex will be out in January.
They are also promising new models and units.
Looking forward to this! :D

If the postage to Gibralter wasn't so dear, I would be willing to send you some of my nid bits rather than have you spend money on whole models just for bits!

It's looking pretty good. a few new species and new models, plus the rumour mill says plastic gargoyles. The plastic trygon has been all but confirmed too.

Plastic gargoyles will be nice! The metal ones are a royal pain!
New species sounds interesting! Let me know if you hear anything else about that.
All in all, should be an interesting release.
I wonder if the new spore mines will still give up KPs?

Heh, I missed that one.

I'll have to get that White Dwarf when he's available though, I've only got the one techsquat and another would be nice for my embryonic Ad Mech army.

Quite frankly I wouldn't mind waiting until dark eldar, necrons, witch hunters and daemon hunters got fresh books first. Still, can't complain.

I think I'll be giving Gav and Nige a tinkle come preorder time.

It's just sucks they let certain codexs to get more outdated, hence armies more unusable when each new codex comes for other races :(

True, but I've learnt to live with it. I have witch hunters, daemon hunters and necrons. We waited a long time for orks and tyranids do need a little help. On the other hand, I didn't want a new space marine codex but we got one anyway.
Fantasy wise it's not too bad. Vampires just got a nice new book and skaven are due thankfully next month. Tomb kings need tweaking, but it's still a great book. The fall guys are my chaos dwarfs. We've had a 7th ed FAQ, and a 7th ed USGT FAQ, with some important questions that never made it into the official FAQ. Apparently the USGT FAQ isn't official. Thats all the morsels we have had since the 6th ed ravening hordes list.

What do you think, real?, fake?, early brain storming session from GW? The toughness boost for most models is a very interesting route for GW to take. Hell, makes my plauge marines look fragile ;p

Can anyone download it and post the text in this thread?

Regarding fantasy... the latest rumour is that next year is a "fantasy year" and that the rule set will get an overhaul (to become 8th ed). Apparently the printers have been told to expect a "big project" next year.

I do wonder about the next version of 40K. I think everything is starting to become too unbalanced and confusing. I don't get to play that often (less games but also playing a wider variety of stuff) and I can easily get back into other games without forgetting the rules. With 40K I find it much harder and games seem far less balanced.

I feel the next version of 40K should be a clean slate again - scrap all existing codecies and start again with a fresh and overhauled set of rules. Bringing out the Nid codex before a raft of others which are in more need is just a commercial decision I think, not a gaming one. And it's commercial decisions which have unbalanced the game. Too many of those and you undermine what your customers are buying your stuff for. GW insist that people "just want to collect Citadel Miniatures" and the game is a nice to have. That's garbage. Without the games, they would just be another figure company and no-where near as succesful.
