New Apoc datasheets

Postby DoctorTom » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:17 pm

I didn't see a mention of this yet - there's new Apoc datasheets at the GW website. There's a bunch of the stormsword/doomhammer variants, an Evil Eye stompa. Even more fun is the Emperor Battle Titan (cheap for only 4000 points! Get your children to proxy as a titan today! :D

There were some others I didn't remember being there, so are probably new. Lucifer Armed Force for Space Marines, a DE datasheet, and I can't remember if all of those Chaos datasheets were there before (was Doom Blaster of Khorne there before? I can't recall). It would have been nice if they had put up all the stompa sheets from the White Dwarf and not just the one that they didn't include in the issue; they felt the need to post all the stormsword variants even if they had been in WD.

Good lord a sheet that makes predators fast..anyone would think they knew that 5th ed was aimed to smack them down or something.
I think the doomsday device was created for if ruffian plays apocalypse , it looks funny :)
Ork one is the one BOLS has had on its dite for a month -ish
Harbinger of night is strange- if within 12 then roll night fight (so fluff rules over actually having an effect?)

that shadow walked thing is scary, bladestorming (wthout penalty) non scattering, non DSing placed models for 50 points.. I can't think of a unit in the game that would cry out for that :)
Barely even lurking..

The only thing I can think of with the necron lord is that apoc tables are big and he doesn't have to remain with the formation, only deploy near them. That means he can teleport off to within 12" of all the enemy big guns and force them all to take night-fight rolls to shoot the rest of the formation (which means they can avoid getting shot by silly size pie plates and you get your 3 'liths and bucket loads of infantry to survive for longer). If they are more than 36" away, they can then avoid all those guns automatically.

Shadow walker lot may get a scary amount of shooting but then you have a whole bunch of low AV walkers all grouped together just begging for a 10" or a couple of 7" pie plates to land on them ;)

***PRO TIP***

Use spare children (sons, daughters ect) to your advantage.
Instead of them disrupting your gaming with requests for food, love or attention, simply place them on the table for the cheapest 4000pt "counts as" Imperator Titan available.
When you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true.
Unless it's a meteorite falling to Earth, which will destroy all life, then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for.
Unless it's death by meteorite.

There are some quite frightening formations there. The only defence is that most people won't have the models!

Combine the above with

"Strategem - tasty snack: Play at the start of any of your movement phases. Place a tasty snack (donut, hotdog etc) on the table anywhere behind enemy lines and declare it to be an objective that only your Imperator Titan can claim. Announce it is available immediately and to come and get it soon or you will eat it. Any enemy models damaged as a result of your [strike]child[/strike] titan the reaching the objective are destroyed and should be removed from the board."

I think apocalypse rules stretch the 40k universe like a giant wedgie stretches your underwear.
The rule of 40k is "most special rules winzzors (unless your grey knights)" so sayeth me.

Any votes on the most useless one of the bunch?

I'd vote for the Ork's Green Tide.
One dreadnaught ties 100 orks up for the whole game.

Although, the Ork Submersible also has some amount of appeal...

As you read down..my annoyance gets greater
The terminus that couldn't shoot forwards I know that one is old hat and contentious but the very idea that its contentious is weak..
Dreadclaw from imperial armour apocolaypse.. that doesn't have any rules for flight..
Giant chaos spawn..(IA:A) which doubled (near tripled) in points and got hit by the stupid stick (got the stupid form of mindless Went from being the IA I saw most often to- I haven't seen it since the book was published.
plague zombies..T2 FNP.Funny but I haven't seen anyone use that ruleset (I've seen more folks drag out the creature feature and LATD..although addmittedly I haven't seen that many of those either)
Titanhammer (the termies all with thunderhammers....+ a vortex grenade but it costs 325points!!! YUK just take the models and buy the assets) We've tried termies and melta guns fighting a warhound it was laughable.
Tide of spawn, something that takes something and turns it into nothing..with a lot of extra dice rolls and 150 points for the pleasure. Blurst.
the grey knight reddeemer one.. where if I have a few chaos and you kill them I suddenly gain controll of all of your army..(sillyness)

Everything where they made up silly stuff to say "you can play interesting games" and then did that by making apoc datasheets rather than 40k stuff for it (e.g. the 1ksons warcoven)
