New GW UK Website Launched!

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Thu Oct 09, 2008 4:35 pm

Hey all :)

we knew it was coming eventually, but the UK GW site has now switched over to the new style, to match the US site.

as well as this, they are running the same offer for the Ltd Ed. SM that they ran on the US site (spend £50 on MO to get the free model).

hope that helps :)

If anyone wants one of those marines without spending £50 at GW, I have a couple spare I'd be willing to part with :)

UPDATE: I'm an idiot. I have spares of the GD marine, not this one. Sorry.

EDIT: having problems with the new site already...
We are currently performing maintenance on our web site. Please check back at a later time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your patience.

i thought the US site was supposed to have been the test bed for the roll out internationally...

Pants to the technical problems... what happened to all the legacy support stuff (all the old chaos legions fluff etc ..) am I doing it wrong or have the cut all articles to 10 per army...
another reason to go renegade on GWs ass.
And on the same day that rapidshare started saying I'd passed my download limit again too :(

What would you want for one of them? When I tried to get one they no longer had them. :(

well i don't personally like the "new" UK site, it's missing a whole lot of articles that were extremely useful for beginners and experienced modelers and painters it's like GW's been lobotomized.

I'm starting to think something is seriously wrong at GW HQ, first it was the no individual bits to buy online and now this.

and to top it all the online shop is confusing compared to the original, i'm a qualified graphic designer with basic knowledge of web design and i know they've really messed up this time.

it just makes me so angry if it wasnt for the models being so good i would give up collecting

Yeah, I have trouble with it too. First up it kept refusing to let me change the country, so it was all in US dollars which was annoying. It's slow, and as you say a lot of the useful articles are gone - or if they're not gone, they done a damn good job of hiding them ...

TBH I rarely use the GW site anyway, only to look up pics of stuff in the store from time to time, so it doesn't bother me that much, but when I do go on it I find it very tedious to have to wait for everything to load at each click, it's one of the slowest I've used.

They also switched their technology stack as part of the change over. They used to run asp (or was it .net?) but they are now using jsp.

When the site first lauched in the US it was just as slow. Maybe we are simply looking at the same site running on the same hardware and they've made no attempt to optimize it or invest in it any more?

It is the same server. They've simply got the language switch. GW did announce a while ago they were moving all their regional sites to this single platform, although not all at once.
