New Hellhound due in August

Postby Spack » Sat May 30, 2009 1:43 pm

GW have unveiled the new Hellhound model at Games Day Spain. This new kit includes a new Hellhound turret as well as weapon options for the Bane Wolf and Devil Dog versions. The fuel tanks have also been dropped and instead the top rear hull of the vehicle has pipes feeding to an internal tank.

I must admit, I am feeling a little underwhelmed. :(

I was hoping for something more like the FW version...

Its nice that all options are covered, though. :)

New hellhound

Think I'll reserve judgement 'till I see the real thing, but my initial thoughts are that it looks too much like the normal chimera. Cue arguments over mis-placed units.......

I am curious if that is just an extra sprue and if so how much those will be. It will be nice to be able to swap out between them.

As far as I am aware you get all the weapon options in one box set.

GW rrp is £30

Same for the forthcoming plastic Demolisher.

Not to get far off topic on the hellhound here, but has GW said what variants of the leman russ will be coming in the new demolisher box?

The more I look at the new Hellhound the more I wonder why they didn't replace the hull flamer with a new design as well as the turret.

Does anyone know if the entire barrel assembly is included in each or is it just a glue on tip that differs?

I am thinking just the tip.

Maybe no magnets needed and just a dry swap like you can do with a dread's arms?

From the pics I'd say it's just the tip.

Good point Dan - what Heavy Flamers still look like that anymore? :?

Chaos ones. Hull mounted heavy flamers must be tainted.

That doesn't impress me at all!

As pointed out, the hull heavy flamers are old school & they (IMO) have looked rubbish for years! Also the turret weapons (especially the banewolf) don't seem to fit properly - it looks like a kit bash rather than a kit.

The internal fuel tanks look less goofy than the current version, but I was hoping for a FW type massive fuel tank on the back. At least I know that I'll be kit bashing my current 'hounds rather than buying these, so there is an upside ;)

The only ones I can think of, on a recent model, are the Baneblade flamers.

I can see why they didn't want to change them - the hull flamer is on the accessory sprue, so changing that would require the accessory sprue to be recut as well as including a new turret sprue.

BTW, while checking the BB sprue just now I discovered I'd put a bunch of parts in my Baneblade box including a crate (long one with the top part opened) I was going to use on my ammo dump marker but couldn't find anywhere. Doh!!
