can they take a Flamer? or is that Vet Assault Squads only?

i suppose Plasma Pistols would be cool (definately fit the theme), and i guess the Melta guy can be given a Bolter and put in the other squad (currently 7 Marines inc. Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon, Sgt w/Bolter, and Bolters for the rest), which i am assuming i need to bump up to 10-man anyway.

i suppose the $1million question is whether this is still going to fit in 400 pts... (i am saving a lot now that my Narth+Reductors are just for show)

cheers

p.s. is there a count down to the new codex anywhere?

Haven't seen one. The lastest on the GW site still says you can pre-order for an October 4 release date.

cheers mate :)

Assault Marines (5-10):
- Have gotten cheaper.
- Sergeant may take a Storm shield, plasma pistol, power weapon, lightning claw, power fist, thunder hammer, pair of claws.
- Only sergeant may have melta-bombs.
- Special weapons are 1 for every 5 models (so 2 specials for 10 models)
- Specials include flamers and plasma pistols.
- May remove jump packs and get a free rhino, razorback or drop pod in return.

cool. just a case of working out if/how its all going to fit...

cheers

They can also have two flamers instead of two plasma pistols in a standard Assault squad (currently).

I believe the new assault squad rules statet that they can swap their packs for a rhino for free (also like it was at one stage).

Yay, another archived vehicle turret back out of the box. Now to affic the top plate and turret to a new rhino hull.

How many models have to be in the unit to swap for the 'free' rhino. If it's 10 marines, then they can drop their packs and get the free rhino. They are then at 220 points with a rhino transport.
If they drop their packs they would be 150 points with cc weapons. Of course they would not have a rhino transport, but they could jump into a land raider if there was one around.
I thought they always could have 2 flamers or 2 plasma pistols or 1 of each.

I'm only going on the 'rumours' for the assault squads. I'm not sure if the squad has to be at 10 models first, though. I'm also not sure if they can dump the packs and NOT take a rhino. I won't know for sure until I see a dead-tree copy.

Then again, with the new dedicated transport rules, that is now a rhino that some other unit can use.

Two models (in an assault squad) may have flamers or plasma pistols (since 3rd ed, I believe)

if its a free swap, why wouldnt you want the Transport? :?

unless it was an effort towards KP denial...?

im thinking of taking a Razorback (with the option of splitting into Combat Squads to make use of it) for some added fire support...

cheers :)

The rule on page 67 does say that a dedicated transport can transport any friendly unit after the game begins. (I would take this to mean after it deploys, otherwise someone might try to say that a dedicated transport in reserve could transport a different unit in reserve after the game begins but before the unit deploys  )

That being said, top of page 35 Codex:Space Marines about Transport Vekicles says that the vehicles listed may only transport the units they are selected with. It does go on to say "See the Warhammer 40,000 rules for details of dedicated transports."

Question here is, do the rules for dedicated transports apply, or does the codex override the rules leaving the dedicated transports only able to transport their own unit? (As per GWs "The codex always overrides the rules" statement)

I checked the SM FAQ and it is not addressed there.
