Space Marine Codex Preview

Postby timewizard » Thu Aug 28, 2008 6:48 pm

Thanks to BoLS for showing the way, here is GWs preview of the upcoming Space Marine Codex.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... 08&start=1
If they follow what they did for the 5th edition rulebook, this should be the first of a few "teasers" from GW.
If you saw the preview already, disregard this message, it will self destruct in 5 seconds.....4.......3.......2.........1..................................... :D

*Bump*..ish

Got my grubby mitts on the Codex today, had a very quick look through it.

1 The points costs for the Rhino, Razorback and Drop Pod are nice and cheap :)
2 Those spiffy "Smurf" IC's etc. can be used in other chapters with exactly the same stats, which is a clever one from the GW :D
3 Marines come with Boltgun,Bolt Pistol, Frag and Krak grenades as standard.
4 One thing I did notice, is that the Razorback can have a twin linked heavy flamer but can't have a multi melta :/
5 It IS a big book, I was surprised even though I knew the codex was going to be big. Strange eh?
Well hope info proved useful. :P

price

Postby Herne » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:03 am

Dunno wether this was covered in any of the posts elsewhere, but I saw the book in a branch today. The manager told me that the price will be £15 but that when the prices on the other products go up it will rise to £18. Seems a lot for a codex! :(

there goes my theory that it would stay @ £15... :(

although in fairness, didnt Codex books used to be £15 way back in 2nd ed? just taking inflation into consideration, they should be more than that now (especially considering the SM codex is similar in size to the old ones).

p.s. i have reserved my copy, so i should get it before the price increase. :)

The new Codex:SM is big and I think worth the £15.
2nd Ed books were a tenner IIRC, but then they were proper codex's :)

Bad news for me, is that Codex;SW probably wont be out very late this year/early next year. The IG one is a February release.

EDIT: I thought the new Drop Pod was very shiny :D
Can't wait to get me mitts on one. Hurry up and get your stock in, King :D

Like, how cheap? We are starting to see that transports are more useful than in 4th.

Very clever, else only smurf players would buy them!
AdrianG wrote:3 Marines come with Boltgun,Bolt Pistol, Frag and Krak grenades as standard.

Bolter and pistol? Quick weapon change at short range and you can now shoot and assault! Interesting! No extra cost for grenades is a nice touch, especially with the assaulting out of or into cover rule.
AdrianG wrote:4 One thing I did notice, is that the Razorback can have a twin linked heavy flamer but can't have a multi melta :/

I had a feeling before 5th came out that flamers would be more important due to negating cover saves. Since virtually everything gets a cover save now, flamers take on a new meaning.

That it did! Thanks for the info.
@KInG - At least you have the discount over GW to hang your hat on. With everything going up, discounts mean you can get that extra mini you wanted, but not if you pay full price at a GD!

That's true TW.

Isn't there a Las Plas option for the Razor, I'm sure I read there was.

This hurts my head .. so hang on... The codex is Price: £15.00 Release: 4/10/2008, but that date is after the price increase which will take it to £18.. but not retrospectively if the order has been recieved before folks know it?
Why not just say £18, 15 on pre order? Codexs going up by half again makes me a highly unimpressed puppy..I don't even want to imagine how many reused pics will be padding out my great new big book.

Razorbacks get the option of replacing their TL H Bolter with either, TL Lascannons, TL Assault cannons(ultimate cheese), TL Heavy Flamers or a Lascannon with TL Plasma Gun.

Obviously there is a point increase for swapping these weapons with the original TL H Bolter.

I have been informed by our GW rep that ALL Codex's are going up to £15 at the end of September.
