timewizard wrote:Help me here please, where does it say that all combat squads are scoring units?

see the 2nd half of the 1st para after the bullet points on p23 of C: DA.

also see the last sentence of the 2nd para of RW Combat Squads on p27.

hope that helps :)

Well it would if you could be more precise with where to find the information!
Seriously, cheers for the info. I know that conventional wisdom states that the codex always overrides the rulebook, but in this case it seems pretty obvious that the rules in the codex refer to the 4th edition rules for scoring units (non vehicle at least 50%, mobile vehicle, vehicle squadron, artillery unit). Since 5th edition specifically states that only troops are scoring units, I would play it that these are now the only scoring units allowed.
I do agree though that GW could (and should) very easily FAQ or errata the DA codex to put this rule change in writing.

i think thats why it gets brought up, more than anything else. If GW are going to say that the old codex books are compatible with 5th ed, and if they are going to bring out FAQs to correct similar issues, then they should finish the job and actually make them compatible.

can you imagine how confusing it must be for someone starting the hobby now, who has no idea what order the books were released in, or how things used to work in 4th? 8O :( :?

That's what forums like this one are for! Here when you ask a question you get an answer. You don't get insulted or berated like some other forums. Doesn't happen all the time, mind you, but once is sometimes too much. I was an instructor during my career and used to tell my students that the only stupid question is the one you left without getting an answer to.

Back on topic, I notice on the GW site that there isn't even a way to send them an email about the FAQs as they would rather you call. Kind of a long distance call for me! 8O
When you all meet up at WHW will there be an opportunity for you to ask GW about some of the issues brought up on this site? If so, would you want to start a thread for posting "questions we would like to get an answer to from GW"?

agreed. but it shouldnt be up to the community to show people the ropes, when they have just shelled out hard earned cash for the rulebooks that are supposed to contain everything they need. :(

there are probably far more gamers that dont take part in online discussions than those that do.

try calling your local MO - they should give you their email address, and in turn they can forward your questions on (in theory).

can you imagine if GW opened an FAQ mailbox and made the email address public? 8O :!:

hopefully, yes. sounds like a good idea - why not start one up? :)

Just compared to the previous FAQ, and the changes are

"Q. How does the Liber Heresius work with the new deployment rules?" - moved from Armoury to Clarifications section.

"Q. How do Excruciators work with kill points?" - new entry

"Q. Priests must be taken with another squad. How many kill points is this combined unit worth?" - new entry
