New game, looks awsome, but i took up the hobby to get away from computer games.

Have GW cracked it here with a ready made market? or is the cross over smaller than I think it is. after all making models and painting, playing on the table top is about as far away from computers you can get really.
www.GamingFigures.com & http://www.AgeofStrife.com 15% off GW models 10% off FoW & GF9 - extra 1% off orders £100+ & 2% off orders £250+ with FREE UK SHIPPING now added

Well FPS generally don't bode well
1) starcraft:ghost failed to make it to the shelves
2) the mod http://www.40ksource.com/ is still in devlopment.
Firewarrior was ok I guess (It took me 2 days to killll the termies on the command bridge
I liked the CCW (the orchestrating your ballet of death :)) but I demand that you can turn off the cinemaction moments..In sands of time etc, its relevant to gameplay..In FPS I'd just see forced slow downs perpetually as an incredible annoyance (and fairly disorientating when your trying to do stuff carefully)
I loved the "we nailed the brutality" I really don't think GW will sign off on the you grab someone you stick a grenade in their chest throw them and then follow up with a chainsword to the face (GW really tries to pretend its acceptable for 12 year olds)

I think it is only fair that GW would allowe some brutality in a game like this. Lets face it, looking at FPS games they are brutal, bloody and violent as a genre... If GW elect to do this sort of game anything less than that, I think it would be a mistake. Read the 40K novels... pretty brutal stuff in there.. Besides... a game like this might appeal to the more... mature autience aswell.. veteran gamers like myself, for instance. hi hi

Yes but GW doesn't see that, (or atleast it hasn't up until now?) its idea of a gamer is 12-18 with money... not someone 25+ who will eat less good food so they can have a 12th baneblade.. Books aren't subject to age restrictions (YET although they are proposing it)games are..and firewarrior was pretty clean with minimal violence..
Didn't I hear that the new mortal combat has had to remove most finishing moves because tearing someones head off and burning them now with todays graphics is just too violent even to get an 18 certificate?

You are probably right with the restrictions placed on Mortal Combat. We are now blessed with the technology to create computer graphics so close to real life apearance, that you can only be amazed by it. On the other side, being able to represent "real-life-look" in games of this nature, naturally creates a problem when it comes to violence. It just looks to bloody real...;)

Edit: By the way... great find with this link... I hadn´t even heard about it...

Technically it's not a FPS - it's a TPS (Third Person Shooter), although it might not even be that as apparently they're putting more focus on the melee side of things (note the boxing bit near the end of the clip, and that the bolter seems a bit ineffective at killing things).

It seems to have drawn on Gears of War a bit - actually, a 40k version of GoW would be awesome (and the GoW characters are armoured and oversized soldiers) although I'm not sure ducking behind cover as a Space Marine would be particularly fluffy in some people's eyes (whereas I can't see why a superior trained soldier wouldn't use cover, especially as a lot of the armour is ancient and it's better to not take damage than spend valuable killing time recuperating).

It keeps doing that - it's being thrashed to death with everyone trying to view the clip.

I agree with Spack, the whole time I'm watching it I was like, "Hey, this is Gears of War with a space marine." Which is actually fine by me, GoW was awesome with it's combat and graphics. I would hope THQ might take it a little further with your arsenal. Bolters and chainswords are nice, but frankly I'd like the option to pick up a heavy bolter, or maybe equip a power fist for the good up close and personal stuff. They could make one of their "cinemaction" moments where you take your pfist and crush someone's head in your hand, that'd be cool I think!

ive watched about 1/3 of the way through and im saying to myself "so i guess this means i have to buy an Xbox 360 then...".

that rocks!

although one flaw ive spotted so far: its too dark - Marines can see in the dark afterall, so as the player we shouldnt be left with so many shadows. :|

although i wasnt worried about that once i saw the CSM!!! (eleventy1 ;))

not sure what would cost me more, buying a cheap new PC (which i will need anyway) and a 360, or buying a new PC good enough to do this game justice...

(n00bish question, but as old Xbox games playable on the 360?)

When the 360 was released, xobox game that were released after will work fine, however old xbox games mostly required you download patches on the 360 to play them :(

The combat scenes were brilliant, i sold my 360 but would buy a new for this :P

just got to hide it from the wife :D
