Yeah people have been discussing this all day on warseer.
The biggest point that someone brought up was that Codex Entertainment, who are making it, are responsible for the Lego Bionicle movies.
I watched a couple of clips on youtube, and they don't look terrible, just terribly homonogised.
I just hope they can step up and make something a bit more grimdark, to fit with the 40k universe.
Remember that The Imperium of Mankind is a fascist religiously extremist beauracratic dictatorship. With guns.

Has anyone read the TVTropes page on 40K, it gives a really good view of the fluff from an outsiders perspective. Maybe this should be souwn to the producers first. **Caution - reading one TvTropes page can lead to reading many more and the subsequent loss of many productive hours.**

Is it going to be rated? In the US direct to DVD is not required to be rated but I don't know the laws in the UK. Theater releases here are not actually required to be rated either but most theaters refuse to show movies that are not rated as you have no idea if it is appropriate for children.

All DVDs in the UK require a rating, so yes it will be rated. Hopefully they'll include enough gore to at least manage a 15.

Off Topic: Does that mean there are no unrated Director's Cuts there? Like if they put stuff back in do they have to submit the film again to see what it comes back as? In the US the theatrical edition will be rated but they normally release a couple of versions that are not that include all of the gore/sex/language that they couldn't use before. I mean the studio already paid for the CGI so may as well use it right?

On topic: As I said over on WS, I am not going to call this a bad decision just yet. I am curious who GW is targeting. A fairly well made movie with a rating can easily be sold in Wal Mart and expose a ton of people to the setting. Naturally GW gives up royalties to some extent but if that helps drive sales of little blue men then it would be a win.

For instance, I have Roughnecks (the Starship Troopers CGI film) because my kids saw it at Wally World and wanted to watch it. I can imagine if GW paid for a small preview of the table top game to automatically play just before the movie that people would be naturally curious to check out the website. Naturally there will be other barriers to entry to overcome but an intro-page just for the game with just enough product to play (say the AoBR set with a couple of tools and paint or a special just for the film if they don't fight Orks) without overwhelming a new person. The added bonus of a page like that is it would give GW some view into how many they can reach outside of stores by using other marketing techniques.

@ ben, we do have unrated directors cut....but they have an 18 on it, no matter how bad it is, 18+ is the highest, over here unrated means content that wasnt in the cinema :D

The highest here is NC-17 for "art" and XXX for porn. Unrated stuff is simply unrated and normally means it is either a documentary or a Director's Cut. They also point out that while movies are rated the commentary and DVD extras are not.

It would do GW well to have a harder version in the US. Americans only get upset with sex in movies. People killing people is just fodder for youth. I understand the issues around such different versions floating around but they could actually have quite a bit in the US and it viewed as okay for the kiddies.

Any film shown in a Uk cinema, or almost any programme or film sold on DVD has to be BBFC Certified in the UK. It is a criminal offence to distribute uncertified material.

There is an exempt catergory for DVD sales, which is Documentaries series.

A Directors cut has to be recertified here. It must make Ridley (is it tuesday, then we must be due a new version of Bladerunner) Scott mad!

Items made for television and broadcast do not need to be certified but there are rules about what can be shown before various times. If the programme is then sold as a dvd it would need certification or marking exempt.

Welcome to the UK, land of Censorship. And yes here pointless violence is allowed over gratuitous sex as well.
