In the new Chaos codex, there are the usual weapon options for the dreadnought but there is no option for the sonic weapons of the Emperors children. Now, there are two options I can see here, either:

a) Games workshop didn`t list the sonic weaponry in the codex because they assumed everyone would know they are accepted and only twits like me would ask such a question
OR
b) They have quietly abandoned the sonic weapon choice hoping no one would notice, which begs the question, Why are Forgeworld still selling them?

Or options:

(c) there will be an Emperor's Children codex in the future that will include the option

(d) they look good, and you can use them as "counts as" another weapon

(e) you can use the VDR, or just get your opponent to say yes, and use them with with the stats of the sonic weapon from the old codex

As of right now, by RaW, those sonic weapons on dreadnoughts are useless. But they will get their use, (c) is very likely as JJ has already stated the 4 major Legions will get their own codexes.

I would go with B) but it wasn't that quiet there were blokes trying to get class action suits for all the sonic weaponry they'd 'invested' in becomeing worthless etc.
They have said they'd "like to do" cult codexes and "if they are done they want to be done right"
(BTW they (assumed- only 3rd hand info)have also at different times said " oh khorne need one first, they have no power and we kibnd of bodged the codex for them" and then said "oh slannesh will be first), but I think with the downturn (and if demonworld doesn't do well, which at the moment I'm kind of thinking hmm its not exactly going to be the same as fantasy orcs+ 40k eldar, so it depends which bloke is in charge spinning what to which board at what time.
Cult codexs could quite easily be shown to be a bad investment by someone.
I'm still reckoning (since the start timescale for any hypothetical new cult codex would be 2011 ish) that it would be around that time in the life span that 3.0 was replaced by 3.5 and time has a habit of repeating itself.
I think a fair amount of power play and budget cutting is going on (have you seen in warseer general topics apparently gav thorpe has left (pushed or walked I didn't read enough to find out)
So 3 years is a long time for projects to change (was there ever a codex xenos?)

Even if GW doesn't go forward with the combined Dex (and I don't plan to hold my breath for it), FW could have EC in a future expansion and allow for it there.
