Sonic Dreadnoughts

Does 120pts seem about right for a Chaos Dreadnought with a Blastmaster and a Doom Siren replacing the Heavy flamer?
I'd say 20pts for the Blastmaster and 10pts for the Doom Siren.
I would say 10pts for the Twin-linked Sonic Blaster arm but that seem a little overpriced to me.

Autocannon (well whatever benchmark its going to be the bench mark should be more £ than a missile cost as a blastmaster a blast template krak with pinning),+ bolter upped to flamer and CCW=115
Blastmaster costs 40 off the rack and your making the flamer AP3.
Your saying those changes =5 points
I think your points might come down as you say for the actual items.. but your starting model costs needs to be way higher.. and then once you've perfectly balanced it you then need to add the imagination tax.. so that folks will be happy.

Twin linked sonic blaster arm? (on this dread as another option, instead of one of the above?) the assualt mode means nothing.. So its always going to be firing 3 shots.. yeah 10 points (a half way house to a heavy bolter due to the strength drop) seems fair.. Or consider it as an alternate upgrade for the twin linked bolter
(For X points you may make it a doom siren, for 10 points you may make it a sonic blaster (not twinlinked..you just get 2 more shots a turn out the thing.. and its slightly worse when your close up)
Basically if your making stuff up..always pitch higher rather than lower :)
Will it still be insane? If your removing the insanity rules.. remember that under the new codexs the reason our dreads are cheaper is because of that crappy rule.. so you'll need to bump it up some more if you ditch that.
hope it helps

maybe change it so it only ever Fire Frenzies, rather than charging? (would be fluffy, yeah?)

The Emperor's Children Apoc datasheet includes costs for these weapons, how about just using those?

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... arband.pdf

Blastmaster is a straight swap for TL autocannons, and the Doom Siren replaces the flamer on the other arm. TL Sonic Blasters are a straight swap for TL heavy bolters.

Nice citage spack :)
Lets not forget though that having access to that requires 100 points up front min 6 units of slannesh to feed the fluff and an apoc style of gaming (which is kind of like "I'll play whatever you want" but X10.. yeah bring a baneblade to 1000 etc )

How about somewhere between the 2.
Autocannon flamer dread is base (I seem to have made up stuff that is actually how GW think ..thats scary 8O ) + an extensive imagination tax. (but no unit/weapon cost upgrade above that already paid.. just the one big point bump up)

I was just using the datasheet as a point of reference for the weapon costs - GW already have established a straight swap for existing weapons so that would seem a sensible substitution in friendly games.

Depends on how friendly one is being to the gracious permitter of such rules.:P

Indeed. But that's the whole point of the post, isn't it? No matter what the end result is, it all relies on the opponent saying yes ;)

Wouldn't it be better to create a situation where it is more likly for someone to say yes (wihtout feeling they've just allowed a baneblade in combat patrol).. Points adjustments are that tinkering tool that permit social cohesion :)

I'd do:

Price the Blastmaster at [Plasma Cannon option +5]

Price the Doom Siren at [Noise Marine price - cost of upgrading the Noise Marine Aspiring Champ to have a Combi-weapon]

Price the Twin-linked Sonic Blasters at [Twin-linked Heavy Bolter option -5]
