Dark Eldar Vehicle Saves

Postby timewizard » Fri Feb 11, 2011 2:30 am

Saw this discussion over on DakkaDakka.

Brought up an interesting question.
If a unit with an invulnerable save fails a dangerous terrain test, it can attempt to save the wound with an invulnerable save.
This is covered on page 14 BRB under dangerous terrain.
A flickerfield gives Dark Eldar skimmers a 5+ invulnerable save. {Codex Dark Eldar page 63}
If a DE skimmer with flickerfield fails a dangerous terrain test, can it roll for its invulnerable save?
And if it makes the save, is it not immobilized and can make its full move?

Thoughts?

Oooh messy.
I'd say yes to the dangerous terrain, there is a mechanism and it fits well into that mechanism, bikes with invulnerables get it. And its kind of fluffy.
I'm not so sure about all forms of table damage thing though(if bought the class: tank upgrade shock prow), some of them don't have mechanisms for saves...as mentioned in thread ramming.. They'd have the jink save for being a skimmer before rolling dice and then if you managed to get through (and were facing damage yourself) they might take invulnerable saves on the damage from ramming.Death or glory another example..landraider when death or gloried are just smacked straight in the face.. (if it was a psychic dreadnought with the same wording..who due to perils suffered a negative table result would it get to (double) roll its invulnerable...at least that follows an existing parallel)
If people pushed me with that bit heavily..I'd push the invulnerable only against wounds back.;)

KMB whenever i read your posts it feels like i've taken a multi melta to the head lol.
I'd probably say they get the save and wont get immobilised if they pass. I dont think its necessarily right but I think thats how it will work as it stands

Imagine if you ram something and it causes it to explode(that also makes you explode).. butfor that they get a 5+ save after a 4+ "save"
Angry face and a WTF would ensue on my part.

What's the 4+ "save" for?

(I have to be honest, I'm also having real trouble figuring out WTF is going on in this topic.)

he means a 3+ dodge for ramming I think...

Well if you had a 3+ dodge and a 5+ invulnerable, you would only get the 3+ since you only get the best save in a given situation.
Nothing in the rules allows you to take 2 saves against the same damage (not talking re-rolls here).

Would you?

The 3+ save is to see if you hit isn't it? Rather than being described as a save... I may be wrong, as I have no book with me

Oops! Yes, if the dodge is successful the ram fails to hit. Sorry, I was on the wrong page!
The invulnerable save on the Dark Eldar vehicles opens up a ton of questions.
Can it be used against shooting? I guess so, it would be akin to smoke or KFF.
What about close combat? Does it work like any other model?
Can you make an invulnerable save against grenades or melta bombs?
Can you save against the damage of a ramming attack?
How far do you take the invulnerable save?

IMO this is one of those that only opens up a ton of questions if that's the goal people set out with in the first place.

Has the vehicle suffered a glancing or penetrating hit? If yes, take save.

I'll buy that since it simplifies it somewhat, but what about my first question.
Would you allow an invulnerable save against a failed dangerous terrain test?

Glad you all caught up with me,
I still maintain that saves where no save elsewhere in the game exists would make me push for the whole "its not a wound so no save" argument. Don't like to see things stack like that.

But vehicles do get saves and they don't get wounded.
