Death from the Skies: what is it?

Postby BANE » Wed Feb 20, 2013 1:11 pm

I ain't really sure what role this book plays:

Is it an official erreta, in which case how do we handle a game when one party has this and the other doesn't.

Is it an expension ala apoc, so we don't use the rules in standard games of 40k but then I can't explain the new FAQs.

Is it a compendium, what's a compendium if its not one of the above.

It's an official errata. But all the changes to current models in codexes have been FAQed it's only Marines and I beleive Orks that will need this to use the new flyers as they haven't got in print rules for them vehicles yet. The other stuff like fighter ace and expanding flyer combat is just the same stuff that's in Crusade of fire and is totally optional. Apple i'dex I've been told have the 'Raven and updated points cost for the 'Talon in it already for free.

Nick, I don't think its available in the Apple iBookstore, at least I can't find it on there.

So if my oppenant is playing SM can they take a Stormraven without this book?
Also if they take a Stormtalon without the book how do they know the points costs have changed?

These questions poping up are making me think it is a expansion and is not allowed in normal 40K games, my codex has been updated on the FAQ meaning i dont need this book but SM players do, that to me seems like an optional thing same as if i wanted to take a Thunderhawk. That said we then have the new 40K stamp appearing in the new Apoc book saying all flyers and ground units with this stamp are 40K official. Colour me confused.

Edit: Whats the score if i arrange a game and my oppenant turns up with 4-5 units from the apoc book with a 40K offical stamp, i have not seen the book so i how do i deal with that?

Its core rules, with some addons to make people feel less ripped off.
Already the web is full of GW store owner X being a cock saying if you want to use vendettas you need this book...even though NOTHING has changed (the AV11 side armour and minor point change was BS)
Stormraven moving from FA in grey knights to the already very full heavy slots kills grey knights (although apparently even as this book was shipping they've amended the faq to back track this for grey knights)..
NOTHING has changed really.. its just a really good way to F&*^* someone off who bought 9 flyers.

I'm 100% Baragashing it on this one. (as I believe I started hinting as soon as it was declared a pay for book)

Mark it was codex updates I was talking about not the book it self (as show by KMB).

Al All 40k aproved stamped models are available for official 40k play, but you must have the rules with you to use them (officialy). The same with this book if a Marine/Ork player wants to use these units (that are not in their physical codex at all) they need to buy the rules to use them or wait for however long untill their next codex.

I'm not sure what your last point is all about. It's like telling a person they cann't use a codex because you've not had chance to read it yet?

If your going by SOME WEB_MYTHICAL STORE owners..EVEN YOU, need this book to play.
Even though once you've taken the sheaf off your [direct sale only, no previews, misdirection leaks] book it turns out that you didn't need it.
However sensible FLGS should have an awful lot of patience for people bending the rules on this truly stinking thing if your not fussed about the whole flying aces chance of AV13 F upgrades to vendettas then dodge this stinker with a giant pole, only the talon has any points balance things changed at all from what I can read. (then crusade of war/firey whatever for dogfight rules.. if you really must)
Then aces are funny, the DA table isn't great for ravenwing, the cron one has one making its weapons twinlinked (which IIRC) they are..Orks get a FNP bubble to add to their big mek bubble.. but its an optional upgrade.. don't buy the book don't take the upgrade IMO.

Yes Marines and Ork will need this book to use the models that are not in there current codex, unless you have the digital copy then your already covered.

Nothing about any other flyer in the book is different from the changes in the last round of FAQs.

I'm a verb....awesome :)

Maybe they're having a competition to see if they can make the core 40k game as onnerous to play as WHF with all the paperwork required (ofc with FW added in it wins hands down anyway).
