Dreadclaw....... *cries*

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/P ... _RHFAQ.pdf

Eurgh... just reviewed IA7, IA Apoc, IA Apoc II, BA Codex and the above link and my head exploded!

In the turn it lands you couldn't assault out of it by all the rules I can see as the standard rulebook prohibition in the Deep Strike rules would apply. However, the Drop Pod rules as published by Forgeworld don't include the requirement for you to get out that, even though they include all the other spiel about half deploying at the start and inertial guidance etc. So you could stay in the Dreadclaw, and assuming it's not shot to shit in your opponent's turn, you could use hover mode to move it as a skimmer and assault out of it at the end of the move.

(You'd also be able to use it to ferry other units about the board after it appeared, once the original occupants have stepped out).

This does pretty much replicate how the original rules worked in that flyers appear in turn X, opponent gets turn Y to shoot them, then they move.

Still a bit of a clusterfuck to me and I'm personally more comfortable using the standard 40k Codex Drop Pod unit entry.

Glad to see you made sense of it,somewhere:D

"even though they include all the other spiel about half deploying at the start and inertial guidance etc" is that overridden by the faq?

The FAQ says: "When the Dreadclaw becomes available from Reserve, it is deployed using the Drop Pod rules"

Now I used the BA Codex as the most recent DP rules printing, and the bit about having to get out doesn't sit under any of the special rule headings, it just sort of is - so it's not referenced in the army list section, only the "bestiary". But a Dreadclaw doesn't have doors anyway, so it's unclear how this would apply.

Also, given it can hover round the table, why bother with that if you have to get out and can't get back in?

What I've since realised is that the print in the FAQ is actually a C&P from IA Apoc 1, which also include FW's original pre-5th SM Drop Pods, so if you make the assumption that's the DP rules they were referencing you actually get:

Step 1 Don't treat it as a Flyer
Step 2 Use the Drop Pod rules
Step 3 Treat it as a Flyer
Step 4 :new_eyecrazy

welcome to the wonderful world of WTF FW? I'm fairly sure my rage at dreadclaws is entering its 5th year (which is amazing given thats almost the length of the hobby (take 2, for me).
I believe I emailed them about it when it was the merge of the 07 update with the IA2 rules.
