I've never seen a GW article about it. Baragash created his own rules in Dec 09, updated in Dec 10: 40k-rules-development/5th-edition-special-characters-t3992.html is that the post you were thinking of?

Do you mean the pdf version of chapter approved in which andy chambers gave 3rd ed rules for 2nd ed special characters?
Looking at the PDF, the only relevant characters in it are dark angel ezekial or asmodai (which ever one didn't get rules in the current codex), nazdreg and zodgrod orks and uriah jacobus plus kyrinov from the battle sisters book. All the others in it have current rules that replaced the pdf.

GW haven't, as far as I'm aware, ever posted an update for old characters to 5th edition. Can you remember which characters this article had in it?

not to 5th ed spack. it was 2nd ed to 3rd ed, including only characters that had models but no (then) current rules. The 3rd ed rules work okay enough in 5th though.
