Hurricane Bolters...

Postby Socaddict » Mon Nov 24, 2008 2:02 pm

Just a quick question. I've been reading the SM dex again, and i'm curious as to a little bit of RaW (disclaimer: I wouldn't ever play it this way, honest)

Hurricane bolters, in the unit entry on the SM dex on page 82, are specifically listed as "consists of three twin-linked bolters, fired as a single weapon" (my emphasis)

For the purposes of weapon destroyed, would these count as three weapons or one? Since it states that only for firing does it count as a single weapon, would you remove one set of TL bolters at a time for each weapon destroyed result, allowing you to effectively take at least seven weapon destroyed results on a LRC, and four on an ironclad?

Now, of course, I would actually treat it as a single weapon, but i'm just curious as to how the RaW could be taken.

Reading the Hurricane Bolter entry(listed in the Land Raider Crusader entry), It states a Hurricane Bolter(singular) consists of three TL-Bolters. Then if you look in the actually Army List listing under the Iron Clad Dread, it is able to replace its DCCW/SB with a Hurricane Bolter(singular). Then also note in the LRC Army List listing that it states 2 Hurricane Bolters(not 6). So my opinion would be that each Hurricane Bolter is its own singular weapon, that when being destroyed would wipe all three bolters out.

(And now my stolen quote from a wise man)
Hope this Helps

Agree with fyrebyrd.

THe Hurricane is a single weapon. Its effects are the same as 3 twin-linked boltguns.

You would have thought that GW would have just created its own weapon stat line by now for them (ie R24 S4 AP5 Rapid Fire 3). But I guess that would melt somebody's brain... :?

Madness I tells you. Next you'll be telling me that stormbolters should all have the same statline in the same codex.

Teehee, obne of the other ones is the combi weapon "house another weapon....may choose to fire the bolter or the *other weapon* you may not fire *both* weapons in the same turn"
But thats just silly :)

the thing is, it still doesn't say "is treated as one weapon", just "is fired as one weapon". Does the fact that a unit consists of multiple models mean that it is a single model? Hence why i'm arguing it this way.

I know that it should be treated as one weapon. But the fact remains that its a weird wording that implies that it isn't a single weapon.
