Power weapons

Postby thesignaller » Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:11 am

Hi

Can anyone please tell me how you deal with a figure armed with a power weapon that assaults a vehicle?

Do you roll to hit, and then as they ignore armour saves on figures do you just roll on damage table?

Thanks

They roll to penetrate normally. A power weapon only ignores armour saves, not vehicle armour values, and offers no benefit against a vehicle in fact.

To follow up on this ^.
(In case you weren't sure).

That means you just get your normal S attack + (normal*) 1d6 v AV.
A S4 SM with power weapon is rolling 4+1d6 against AV10 (most common rear AV in the game as ALL vehicles (bar walkers) are hit in the rear armour in cc) and at best, all he can do is glance it (on a 6).

*There are some characters that hit as 'monstrous creatures' with power weapons. These would get the normal MC (2d6) bonus instead of the normal 1d6.

Unless the power weapon is a power fist or equivelent, in which case you get twice the model's strength plus 1D6. So a SM with a power fist gets 8 + 1D6 for a result of between 9 and 14, much better chance against the AV10 vehicles.

In a similar vein, ligthing claws grant the user a re-roll to wound - this is also not the same as armour penetration. So lighting claws work thus:

1. against non-vehicles > grant a re-roll to wound and ignore armour saves
2. against vehicle > no bonuses at all - just 1D6 + user strength to penetrate
