Q from the weekend

Postby Baragash » Tue Nov 08, 2011 3:36 pm

This came up in two of my games at the meet....

If a model with an effect that benefits a unit (ignoring Necrons ;) ) or some sort of aura gets splatted, does the effect end immediately?

The two examples I encountered were the IG Priest's fiery oratory and the Blood Angel Librarian's Unleash Rage psychic power.

"The librarian and his unit have the preferred enemy rule until the end of that turn"
Sounds like once he's unleashed their rage they don't notice if he gets stomped..(to me)

Shield of sanguinus is trickier, as it too lasts until the end of the phase, but if he is dead where do you measure from, since only 1 units shooting is simultaneous not the whole shooting phase.

I wrote big response on the same vein as KMB, but the site ate it :(

Chaplains & priests (although the priest's wording is a bit more abiguous) give rules tro the unit they are with rather than being the point of reference from which an effect is measured.

I had a similar issue with my Wolf Preist and his preffered enemy rule

I was winning at the time so was happy to give the advantage to my opponent

Probably would have been less generous if I was losing

I have a hard time buying into the rules for something remaining in existence once the model is not in play (without an appropriate caveat), or otherwise leaving any residual effect behind.

That's why we should play games with better rules.

Tis simple, something has an start and an end, it has a list of people effected. It doesn't require exceptions beyond that to make it clearer that that is the limit of its rules.
If men have been whipped up into a furious rage of red mist they aren't going to suddenly snap out of baresark because a bloke 7 along from him fell over on the charge to face the (obviously evil and foul because they are the enemy) baddies.

Space wolf one is worded slightly differently as its to the unit he has joined (unending).. so the question is in death is he no longer joined (I'll go off and look at the ICs page but bits of me say yes, death separates them) I think I said that was the important grammer bit when I was asked.

So fluff silly here would be they really really hate them dirty tanks what they ever done for us anyways.. and the yokel skinhead constantly mouthing off about "that isn't a real gun muzzle its fake" dies and nevelle at the back says..actually I knew a tank once she was alright..lovely predator she was and the group nods.

I merely agree with Gav:

I've always been aware of the light but keep one eye covered and in the dark so as not to kill my night vision.
