Regimental Advisiors (IG HQ)

Postby Jay » Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:04 pm

I've just read the FAQ for the IG codex and one thing that's popped out is this;

Code: Select all
Q. If you take two Astropaths or two Officers of
the Fleet, do their +1/-1 to reserve rolls stack?
A. No. The advantage of having multiples of these
Regimental Advisors is that you can still gain the
benefit of the Telepathic Relay/Intercept Reserves
rules should one Astropath/Officer of the Fleet be
killed. The confusion created by having so many
advisors simultaneously vying for a Commander’s
attention negates any potential benefit.

Now that to me says taking multiple of the same advisors is legit, ie I could field 3x Masters of Ordnance but in the case of Astro/Officer there abilities won't be stacked, but as the MoO ability is essentially a weapon fired in shooting, that I could in theory have a 3x MoO firing 3 individual S10 Ap3. I've always assumed you could take 1 of each advisor (except the two body guards) ...thoughts?

Also if a company commander can replace his weapons from the weapon list, (Close Combat/LasPistol), I'm taking that Colonel Iron Hand can also buy a power weapon/fist in the place of his CloseCombat weapon, I mean the 'bloomin model has a power sword!

Fair game?

No on both counts. Each Company Command Squad can have only one each MoO, Astropath, or MotF per the list of options. So, there can only be two of each in the army. The FAQ just means that having two Astropaths in the army won't grant +2 to Reserves, it just gives you a backup in case one is killed.

The Company Comander can replace their weapons. Colonel Straken replaces the Company Commander, including any upgrades they took. Straken doesn't have any options. Besides, a Power Weapon or Power Fist would be a downgrade for him.

Aye see I've always took at that, but I was under the impression you couldn't field another Company Command Squad because then you have officers of equal rank on the same board, which in military terms make no sense (Unless there from different arms, or different sub arms eg. logistics, intelligence) Unless you had Creed on the board who is a Lord Commander (but that's totally based off fluff and the Apocalypse formation rules). However going of the off the FAQ there's nothing to stop me fielding 3 company HQ's (and corresponding troops to meet the requirements) which is doable without upgrades even at 1500 + a battery of ballisks!

That model of Ironhands is misleading. I might just make a couple of models of the same guy and just have a house rule one and a legit one.

You mean nothing stopping you other than the 2 HQ choice limit imposed by the Force Organization Chart?

The model isn't misleading at all. It has the exact wargear he is listed with. The 'power sword' isn't. It's a catachan long knife (which all catachans own) which counts as a close combat weapon.
I'd also point out that he already has a built in power fist that strikes at Int and is combined with his pistol and close combat weapon for an extra attack (which you couldn't do with a powerfist). It's madness giving him a powerfist or power sword!

As for the faq not stopping you fielding 3 company hq's, no it doesn't. The force organisation chart does though. Company command squads count as HQ slot choices.
*edit: ninja'd!
Welcome back to the guard! I've recently returned to them myself.

Haha cheers :p I do often forget its 2 and not 3!

And cheers for the Iron hand info, I was unaware he has a powerfist, I must re-read! I plant to create a Colonel Radec character (the same from Killzone 2) using Iron Hands stats and gear (so for all intents purpose he is Iron Hand just looks like Radec)

He hasn't got a powerfist.
The special rule sort of makes him a monstrous creature in cc.
