True grotesques aren't poisoned but by putting a hammie and/or rakarth in with them they get furious charge, making them St6, more than enough to deal with most things in a couple of rounds. For things like rip tides and wraith knights where poison combat would be useful, I would suggest pointing as many poison shots and dark lances as poss at them!

I would agree...

I'm leaning towards a lot of Kalabites still, with DLs in the troops and SC in the trueborns; Anti Tank and Anti Infantry in that order. Then I need something to keep them off me, if the number of shots isn't enough.

For that I was thinking Wyches with HayW Grens for Anti Tank (dreadies and maulers etc) and Wracks for Anti Infantry (poisoned, liquifiers and flesh gauntlets) to tie up and scare any baddasses.

These anti combat units need to be mobile to go and meet the threat so put them in raiders with DLs for more anti tank.

Then a voidraven bomber for Anti Air and more Anti Tank.

Not sure which HQ choice would best compliment all that though. Some Hermoc's and maybe The Baron to give some guys hit & run and/or stealth.

EDIT: although if I give trueborns HayW grens they can stem any assaulting vehicle types. Mmmm they don't get the 4++ sv though and would die a lot quicker. :(

Its these 5 man units in venoms that worry me. Small and fragile..

I've been running a coven list of late
Rakarth
Hammie with web way portal
5 grotesques, champ, liquifier
5 wracks in venom
4 wracks in venom
2 beastmasters and 10 kymeria
2 talos and 1 parasite engine
Any other points is spent on wyches for anti tank.

My non coven list is something like this
2 units of warriors in raiders ( blaster and cannon, dark lance on raider)
2 units of wyches in raiders (haywire)
2 trueborn (one with blasters and one with cannons) in venoms
3 wracks for sitting on objectives in my half
Beastmasters and dogs for running a enemy
2 ravager with distigrators
My HQ is either a archon or hammie. I used to run the baron with 20 hellions but not had a great deal of luck with them in 6th

I play quite aggressively, making the enemy react to me, which I think is important for DE.

What points total are those lists? First seems light on numbers. I was looking at having kabalites holding objectives where they can at least shoot at something. Wracks holding objectives can't do anything until someone comes close.

1500pts. The idea is not to let anyone come for my objectives! 30 points for a deckchair unit is not much to pay. But I see your point and warriors would do well.

He starts giving stealth to a kalabite unit holding objective. He can also give them or anyone close he joins hit and run and a 2++ save.

He is also S6 on charge so can go popping light vehicles if needed, and with 2++ save can be alone while doing it.

One other good ability is +1 to going first. ;)

Agreed. Just a shame he doesn't punch through armour too well, ie no power weapon. But still, you can't have it all. :)

If I was going to 2k on this list I think I'd be tempted to add your beastmaster unit. That would give the enemy an immediate threat to deal with while my gun line had free rain.

I'm also thinking that the second wych unit might have to be swapped for more guns. There's quite a bit of assault capability in this list, but I was intending for it to be very shooty. That third true born unit keeps calling out to me... Or maybe, to add more troops, just five normal kalabites with 1 splinter cannon in a venom. Bah! scrap that, u have to take 10 for a cannon. Maybe another raider with 5 and a shredder, and give raider disintergrator. That would be 45+5+60=110 pts. With a bit of tweaking, I could get two of those for one wych unit. Mmmmmm. Interesting... What ya think?

You would only get another 8 poisoned shots (at 12") and 3 more shots from the raider. If you go over 6" you cant fire the shredder either. I would be tempted for a cheap unit in a venom, 5 basic warriors say. At 24" that gives you 17 shots, 34 at 12", plus another scoring unit to boot.

Agreed. Might have a look at squeezing in a couple of those @ 110pt each. Would need to find 20pts from another unit.
Only ld 8 though, just realised. Mmmm maybe the wyches are a better option all around??? After all you can't win by just shooting. There are times u need to take/contest the enemies objective. If there's no armour for the wyches to attack, they can always be used to support the wracks in an assault vs infantry.

Need to do a summary of weapons along with ranges and see what this list actually has.

I thought the transports could deploy separately and start on the board, leaving the others to come through the portal?

Do I need to re read dedicated transports. :(
