Kamikaze Eldar

Postby Daimyo52 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:42 pm

The last 2 games I have played agianst my mates Eldar my vehicles and defiler are getting creamed by 2 of his wave serpents with star engines ramming from a long way out...........

about 20-24 inch plus the extra movement from the star engines means that if he judges it right he can auto pen even a Land Raider................. is this being played the right way and whats the best way to combat it ( seeing as how my shooting couldn't hit a caws backside with a banjo )

Max strength of a ram is capped at 10, so it can never auto penetrate av14, it would require a 4 on a d6 to glance. I'll be back with some links and citations in a mo.

THe FAQ for 5th ed found through the shrine of knowledge caps it at 10 http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... h_2009.pdf
Note however you can still move a sum that would give you a formula greater than 10.. it would just not get stronger.

Then you have the can I ram in the movement phase, then in the shooting phase.. or get behind the enemy and ram their arse in the shooting phase..
covered here fairly painlessly
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthrea ... ht=ramming
If you get much deeper than that..I can link you to the 50 page ones.. the important bit I guess is I cite the GT faq.. which I believe is what your getting ready for. (However I don't think they are publishing it this year :x )

EDIT oh and here are the 2 times it turn up here :)

Having sat a read the ramming FAQ a few times I'm a little unsure on what it means when it says....

" only a vehicle's armour value makes exception to the " Maximum 10 " rule for characteristics "

does this mean you can add the extra above 10 for the ramming vehicle's armour bonus ????????

No, it means that all stats (Strength, Toughness, Leadership etc) are capped at a maximum of 10, except for AV which can be higher.

If a model with S10 had Furious Charge, he wouldnt hit at S11 for example, because no such value exists. Same goes for Ramming - the Strength cant possibly exceed 10, because Strength is a characteristic, and all characteristics (barring AV) are on a scale of 0-10.

Hope that helps :)

To make this more complex (that means if you don't want to.. you can tune this out) they have stated that bonuss can exceed 10.. e.g The bloodfeeder has been clarified as allowed much more than 10 attacks. (GW says because the bonus is only there for that turn..kind of like ramming is only a set of modifiers and bonuses for one phase...) But thats where we get all tzeentch snake eating only tail and brain melt..

Yeah they mucked that up though: what they should have said is that while a model's A stat is capped at 10, the number of attacks he makes (i.e. the number of to-hit dice he rolls) can exceed 10, because the A stat is only the starting point when working out how many attacks he makes. i.e. the number of dice you roll in combat isnt a stat.

A model with A10 on his profile rolls 11 dice when charging, etc. and this is fine. His A stat is still capped at 10, but the number of attacks he makes is not (the number of attacks you make is your A stat plus bonuses).

But no, getting things right would have been too simple for them, I guess. *shrugs*
