looking to round out my BA lists

Hi All

looking for some input and help with a BA list, i have played with them a little since the codex came out, normally Play necrons, so moving to SM was way to slow, so i picked BA as they are a little bit faster.

Anyway, i have been slowly putting together lists and models and would like some C&C around the lists. Below is going to be my standard 2k list and before you all shout yes it has whirlwinds :D I like them just not sure how well they are going to play :D

The general idea is for 1 Libby and one priest to go with each 5 man assault squad, and the Chaplin go’s with the DC in the redeemer.

Whirlwinds site at the back and pie plate anyone within range, as long as i have LOS i can move 12 and shoot them, if i don’t have LOS and i can hide them i can use the Barrage rule.

i then have 2 wings, 1 for each flank or i can keep them together, the Rhino extends the FNP bubble and the Shield bubble, and if necessary i can run the LR as a LOS blocker.

the small scout squad is for camping on my backfield objective with a 2+ cover save or i can put them out as a bullet bate at the start of the game to stop some long range shooting taking out my transports

I do have a few nibbles.
Powerfist *in 5 man squads*,when you have a priest attached? Why not scrape the points together for a combi melta on the sarge, or power weapons on the priest AND the sarge.Since your going to hit stuff at INt5 Str5.Cheap priests are good, but against anything but guard amping them up gives you great dividends.And a 5 man squad has a good chance of a fist being killed from shooting/sniping or before his intiative IMO.

Melta bombs on the scouts- can you shuffle it for a combi melta on the sarge, hitting on a 3+ then double dice is much happier for area denial, and better to not have got into combat with that dreadnought.s'only 5 more.

Me arrogant from elsewhere on smurf ones..might add something to your ideas
I quite like whirlwinds but not in big games.. To few points/fragile for a big FOC slot

Whirlies for the bump win in 5th

At its best you have something that can fire a pieplate across the table reduce scatter, str 5 no cover (from blast centre)killstuff whereing carapace without a save possible (3+ and better only) and cause pinning and if enough wounds, cause the pinned unit to flee (p24), or move and shoot and choose ammo that denies cover even to those stood in a buildings(depenind on how you play em).
I'm a big fan in under 1500, or when your playing a lot of geq (I play against geq mech pretty perpetually)


I'd give that my stamp of approval though, do tell us how it works out..

I like the suggestions, have a second game tonight so I will see how the changes work out, although I don’t have the Points to make the Redeemer a crusader, unless I drop one of the Power swords. But I can change that in the game after.


First game went pretty good, managed to draw V space wolves, with lots of rockets. I will Wright up a little batrep and add it in later tonight as well as tonight’s game.

So I have had a few Games with both lists some good results some bad and most in the middle ground. To this end I am going to try a few changes, I have keeps the Core of the Army Pretty static, the whirlwinds are doing well, it could be that its because no one normally see’s them so they don’t know how to deal with them or it could be my tactical genius !!! don’t all LOL at once :D. I have swopped out a HQ and some elits, so onto the new list

Main change was the swopping HQ for golden boy and then swopping out the Death Company for some Assault terminators, I faced off against daemons with this build and every one except the Termys did what they were meant to do, Golden boy was a massive boost to the Assault squads with the +1 attack bubble,

Unfortunately the Termys just did not do anything, it was a problem of them not being fast enough to keep up, so will have to re-think what to do about them, I could swop them out for some normal Termys with a Assault cannon for some mid range shooting goodness or and this is my currently favourite idea, drop them and take some Vanguard vets,

Now if I do go with VV then it’s a question of how to kit them out, hoping to take advantage of the heroic intervention for a Deep striking assault, will have a think but if anyone has some experience with VV’s any insight would be warmly received.
