have my ticket for heat 3 having played my newbie list, this is what i have settled on

Chaos Lord............ twin claws MoK( goes with Zerks )

9 Zerks................ champ with PF ( EA rhino )

9 PM.................... champ with PF + 2 melta ( EA rhino )

8 PM.................... champ with PF + 2 flamers

3 oblits

1 Vindicator ( Daemonic )

1 Defiler

Wings on the lord/ (wings not jump pack, mean he can still fit in the rhino if you want)
Flamers without a movement mode.. hmm.
Defiler with 4 CCWS? or did you stick something rangey in there?
Is my rough guess right that you have 10 points still free? Melta bombs on the IC and khorne leader?

Hi Daimyo, Hey KillMaimBurn (haven't seen you since Warseer!)

I think the entire army needs to go in transports, otherwise it's just too slow.

I would suggest something like:

Daemon prince, mark of nurgle, wings, wind of chaos

3 squads of plague marines in rhinos with twin plasma or melta

1 defiler (with close combat arms)
and as many obliterators as you can physically fit!

If you have points left over, give the plague marine squads 'personal icons' for 5pts so your Obliterators can Deep Strike in safely.

Hiya Darkseer, yeah didn't see you on the web after you got hit by the hammer.

Welcome to AoS, I presume you know a few folks here..some from the rules forum, some from MP+T.
Ljundhammer is here (posts as russels teapot in the WS deathwing tactica) Fellow chaos LATD slave jubilex is here, but changed his name mildly crypticly,Matt is here etc.
To those who don't know - Darkseer was editor of firebase for a significant portion of it, and was allowed by the mods to also go by the name AMBS.(until some kind of falling out led to his bannage)
(this was the first post OP had on the topic.. viewtopic.php?t=3493 I did mention mobility )

Are you going to the GT (heres mine which is getting little attention), frequent another site similar to the OP,same gaming circle, what entices you here now?

Jump Infantry cannot go in vehicles, with wings or anything else.

Chaos faq, released 2 months after it would have actually been useful in escalation.

Welcome Darkseer! Firebase ws (and still is) a great ezine. I'm sure it took a lot of hard work.
I agree with you KMB, a model with wings just moves like jump infantry, but doesn't suffer the same restrictions.

Hi Daimyo,

I agree with previous posters, you need transports. If I'm honest, I'd rethink the HS section to get those, the defiler isn't great in competative matches, the Vindi really needs to be in multiples to get to round 2, and the oblits are wasted in units of 3 (units of 2 is perfect at 1500). I'd recommend either:
1) Rhino wall & a couple of vindi's - the vindi's/rhinos will take the heat of anti-tank from each other & allow you synergy to get your whole army shooting trhwe same thing (while they survive); or
2) Rhino rush with icons & oblit D/S - this allows you to get plasma guns/ multi-meltas where you need them & fast (at the price that they may not turn up when yo need them)

I'm sure others will have different ideas, but they seem the soundest to mefrom looking at your troop choices. If you didn't know, a single squad of bezerkers won't be that useful to you, unless the enemy come to you quickly, but I'd get the HS & transports sorted first.

Well the idea was to put the unit of PM without transport in and around objectives, therefore not needing a rhino,
still not sure abouit heavy choices yet............

Do you think I need 2 HQ choices at 1500pts especially for the UKGT ?

I can see what you mean, but I always mount up if possible (double entendre unexpected 8O ). If you've got the points, a rhino is always worth the investment, even if you only use it as cover you get to deploy where you need it...

2 HQs is really up to you, where you think your army is lacking & how the HQs & rest of your army deal with that area (or if you can do a similar job with something else for better result, or cheaper points). It's not really something you can give a definative answer to without seeing the lists involved...

here's my revised list


Nurgle Lord ( plaguebringer )
Khorne lord ( twin claws )

8 zerks inc PF champ ( rhino )
7 PM inc PF champ and 2 x melta ( rhino )
7 PM inc PF champ and 2 x flamers

3 x Oblit
2 x Vindi ( DP )

For 10pts more is it worth swapping the nurgle Lord for Fabius Bile ?

what exactly do the lords need winds for ( could drop an oblit )

also at 1750 what would you arm Termies with ???

Fabius Bile won't do anything in this list. The wide interpretation of his special rules prohibits chaos-dedicated troops from being improved, the narrow interpretation includes just CSM troop choices. So I definately wouldn't use him.

I wouldn't be happy using flamers on a squad without a transport - might as well give them plasma, at least they can sit on your base & fire some weapons then...

Wings allow your lords to fly behind your rhinos (out of LoS) then charge after the squad in the rhino has dakka'd the snot out of the squad, meaning the lord is more likely to win combat (& not be blatted by the fist you couldn't kill). If they are in the rhino, a sernsible player will run away from the khorne lord with his troops choices and throw an ironclad at him & hope the fist in Bezerker squad doesn't hurt too much!

Whether it's worth it, I don't know. Given the choice, I'd likely run sourcerors for more dakka in the rhino (or lash), or a DP, which will take heat off the rhinos & is more survivable (once it gets to combat) & more reliably killy in combat than either lord. That said, I expect I play very differently than you do, so it's up to you - I'd recommend sticking with that army if you are happy-ish with it & play test it - you can see how stuff pans out from there...

As to terminators - the most efficient method of use is to DS min squads with melta/plasma spam. It doesn't look very heroic though... The main problem is that they have small squad sizes, are slow & aren't fearless/ATSKNF, so are known to run away like the cowardly traitors they are. They also lack the signature terminator weapon - the assault cannon, which makes them quite weak at shooting in my eyes (yes, they have combi-weapons, but that only works once), so I'd probably ensure that they are good at combat, DS them to a rhino'd icon (or they'll never make it), ensure that you exploit wound allocation properly, then add a mark if there's points. But I've never really considered tem before...

I am not an experienced CSM player myself, but I play against a lot of them.

One thing that I have found to be true is that they can find themselves struggling to hold objectives with just 3 troops choices especially if you find yourself fighting over 3-5 objectives.

One of my regular opponents has dropped a unit of marked marines and been able to take 2 5-man squads of basic CSMs this has given him more flexibility in dealing with all those objectives.

Just something to consider.
