The changeling

Postby kittenslayer » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:56 am

Just wondering if anyone here's been pwned by the changeling yet? My Tau got totally stuffed up by the lil fellow yesertday! It's not a joke when almost every unit within 24 of him have to roll their leadership to shoot! Pretty much cost me the game!

By my reading of the rules, both for the changeling and pskyers themselves, He can only affect one unit, not all. Since a pskyer "can use one power per player turn" and and the changeling can "Pick any enemy unit," this reads to me as he can target only one unit to be affected. If more than one unit was to be affected, I would presume to see the wording as either "all enemy units" or as "any enemy unitS"

Any actual daemon players care to correct me?

I have a copy of the codex at the office, if no one answers I will get back to you on that! If what you say is true, then my opponent cheated big time!!!! Cause he claims every unit within 24 of him has to check leadership. It is kinda fishy since the changeling is only 22 points!

Well, that was my reading of the wording from the codex itself. Theres nothing in his entry that allows him to use more than psychic power in each player turn, so I'm pretty sure that your opponent was indeed cheating.

Yes, his power only allows ONE enemy unit to be targeted per turn. If it was supposed to be all, it would say ALL instead of ANY. Also note that it repeatedly says "the unit", the singular, making it even clearer it's only 1 unit that will be affected.

Argh!!!! I could have beaten him then!!!! Guess I will need to make sure I bring the oppositions codex next I play!

Anyway, how about that nasty fellow skulltaker? Anyone silly enough to send their special character into combat with him yet? That b*stard killed my nightbringer easy peasey with his 4+ rending attack :(

Not had problems with the skull taker myself, however I rarely take a HQ without Eternal warrior these days (I really cant stress how almost mandatory I find that rule for any single model worth 100+ pts and meant to get into the thick of things).

I've not had much success with Skulltaker. On the few ocasions I've taken him he's been shot to bits before he got anywhere.

Any daemon player I face always seems to imply that changelings effect any unit within 24 inches, so all! Rather anying but with the wording, no matter how much I say how the wording is implied, its soo poorly written you can only argue so much =/! Lucky for me I use eldar so I don't really care much, my seer council tends to run that unit down as soon as they appear lol!

Just having a read of it now and it's pretty clear it only affects one unit. (Very) wishful thinking otherwise. Any unit you can see doesn't mean all units you can see. I don't think it's poorly written at all.

I agree yet any can also imply more than one. No where in the sentance does it say any ONE! It says any..therefore implies any unit within the 24 inch range, hence why daemon players miss use it.

That "is visible" not that "are visible" you have 3+ instances of them referring to it in a singular context. That is your "a" (warseer there is currently a 6 pager of someone being b1tch smacked about how to judge a plural)
Otherwise your falling into that whole realm of people who would argue "a" cannot be equated to "1", and then you've broken binary all human scientific endevour and the world collapses into the oceans as cthulu rises again, no longer constrained by the existence of a single integer as his guardian of rest. (or at least I can come up with some silliness like firing "a" shot etc)
It has always been the prerogative of half-wits and fools to point out the Emperor has no clothes, but the Emperor remains the Emperor, and the half-wit remains a half-wit.-The Sandman (The friendly ones)
