Whats your core list, your perceived exact weakness..
e.g.
do you high number of bodies?
.. that get there
.. or that tarpit/distract
do you want lots of attacks
or do you want good attacks, that can directly hurt terminators
or MCs and vehicles
Do they need to score?

I know, your gonna say all of them, but if you have a split down 9 scoring units, with a lot of high str shots..that kind of narrows the field.

Just for fun my last dark angels list had this utterly filthy unit in..

Dark angels, Assault squad, drop pod..2 flamers+ combi flamer (+ mandatory frag grenade to be thrown by joey average)

..I by accident spent 20 more on it(its only 105), and forgot to chuck the frag..and Lh was savvy enough to completely block LOS from one flamer.. and it still did the business (especially in overwatch).Yes its not scoring(doesn't unlock allies unlike the BA one that has less flame)..but alpha strike 4ish templates for 100 ish points, I love how neglected units have these lovely little combos now. I'm trying to figure out if I can throw away a banner of dakka into an equivalent command squad without it being a horrible waste of points.(bikes zoom up to a flag planted in middle of ground all shoot 4 shot bolters

(you see what I mean by being hung up on alpha strike..I'm bringing it back..if you listen really carefully you can hear LH moaning on the wind about what a dull boy I've become  )

I have no set limits/ideas anymore, I have gone thro the building process so many times and had to break it back down that I am now completely open to ideas.

So you know where your working from I am using BA at mo but this can change to any marine list with any marine list as allies.

Was looking into a van vet unit to hit behind the wall or Dante to do the same and a DC on foot to hurl straight at the front lines as a distraction. Problem is you really need all of these to make the idea work and taking just one leaves you light on points for other stuff.

Aww dude.. thats never fun.
Ground floor..What models you got, what you got on spru, whats 3 colours basic and ready, what things do other people have kicking around that they're willing to lend you for a while..what is easiest to bash together to see if you like playing it?

Off top of head you have 3 full blue tactical squads.
2 storm ravens..
and some amount of blinged up assault guys.

(and access to niges DA stuff if you wear a Tshirt saying how awesome he is or something?)
A few off the top of my noggin ideas/bitesize for inspiration.

Allys with a core role (more than just token bits).

Bloodangels 645 ish (a 2 more baskets for any eggs)
Mephiston
8Deathcompany, 2 power weapons
Stormraven with Typhoon missile, Asscan typhoon and bloodstrikes

Grey knights 563 -solid core infantry hunters (specialist CC)
Ordos xenos with rad hides behind
2x6 termies 1 with force hammer with str5 stormbolters
(Add psyfleman 135, inq also allows a henchman squad in elites if you want it)

Alt--tank hunting pill boxes that score.790(V expensive)
Crowetax, +2x10 purifers with 4 psycannons rhino, 2x4 bigguns stay at back as scoring dev squad.. whilst 2x5 come forward behind rhino wall as fairly good assualt ttroops.

Smurf bikes 550(nippy cheap way to get to objectives you stick well out of the way of a slow opponent)
Gets you artificer captain with niceweapon and 2x5 bikes inc attack bikes.
(stil with FA slot for speeder, and heavy slot for thunderfire)

Eldar basic -196.
Farseer with jetbike and 1 power bought and swapped for super fortune, runes of warding.
(why not all the bling? Well it arguable doesn’t work with even their battle brothers so spending 100 points making him super wiz=waste)
3guardian jetbikes-1shuirken cannon
(cast divination from hiding spot on warwalkers-24 reroll to hit str6 shots for another 180..kind of fragile though. )

DA equivilant of both bikes and termies it should be noted CANNOT be allied with (as they only unlock as troops if they are a primary detachment..nasty bit of v precise wording in army list section..so if ravenwing/deathwing fascinates you more than manilla/GK counterparts they must be the primary core list) If you ally with DA its all about the bling equipment stuff..

General-
Space wolfs is a fix your gaps codex FOC stretcher, both with squad member upgrades, psychic defenses and all rounder troops etc.(+thundercav +lonewolves), As is smurf if your BA.
Vehicles are cheaper in smurfs and spacewolves.. but you get discounts for transports in BA and DA.BA+GK have speeassshal rools.DA and GK have best techmarines (but remember GK ally badly so they won’t work well).
Hordes of meq,or fireplatforms= DA. Horde of meqMECH msu?BA

Silly one to argue over- Pedro Kantor hasn’t been faqed so if you take him sternguard across the codexs are scoring (sic)”your sternguard”

Silly extras- need a super squad?? You can ally your 3 runepriests 1wolfpriest with 3 BA priests multiple wolfguard into your BA jump pack units to have silly numbers of ICs per squad..its just not very due to jump units being capped at 10(the only time I want more than 10man units).

Terribad ideas
- 6th ed gunslinger and any codex buying 2 plasmapistols.. buying 1 silly, buying 2..shootyourself.
- taking a landraider as a troops choice (where it will never score) rather than as a heavy slot(where it will score 1/6)

http://www.3plusplus.net/2013/04/deal-w ... f-you-can/

Quick link , kirby has stuck up a ..what your list should be designed to handle in 6th ed list.

Personally I take all that into account (when sober)apart from bolterspam, and whilst I generally can take down 20 termies, taking down 20THSS I never plan to do it just like that, I generally go for mobility to give me more chances (which works against the footslog tourney peeps not LH..but he doesn't take 20 THSS.. the teapots weakspot like so many other things is fast melta)
I haven't faced new tau yet..
I haven't faced someone running a pure meq horde (even counting crons) which wasn't heavily reliant on "more important" mech round the edges in a couple of years (I think the last meq horde I got squared up against was LH doing a as many beserkers as possible charrrrgGGE!! list a couple of years back) I'd actually really really like someone anyone to bring pure meq horde against me.. I have no idea what I'd do- because well its never reared its head on my threat list to think about..I took a 35 man 6 dread thing once it was rubbish.
I think its silly to not mention psychic powers, they are so core to 6th ed, whether its for rerolls to hit, a monstrous creature that constantly regenerates or being able to nullfy completely a 500 points deathstar with 65 points..You've got to have some way of stopping psychic powers, even if its just uncle wu,for the stalemate so your other guys can do what they do.Equal to flyers,I'd argue.

Was going to post this here myself but was unsure of the etiquette of the matter. Thanks for your spin on it too, by the way who is uncle Wu? Cos a 65 pt model that stops a 500 pt deathstar sounds useful.

uncle wu is the guy whose there to tank the goddevil lo pan, so that jack burton can kick everyone elses butt..then they kick lo pans butt.. If in doubt.. watch big trouble in little china 5 times.
Ok so more like 85, gets you two rolls on telepathy and I've been writing up how the power of erm/quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself and puppet master ("You really want to shoot your own leman russ up the jacksie") are balancers.. the bigger the foe the better the spell.

Ah ok, get the refrence now. And I see you point in telepathy vs death stars. I already know the benifit of puppet master as Nige found when his new fangled plasma blast speeder started killing his bikes in droves, the look on his face when he relised what the power could do.

You managed to kill only once with puppet master. Mainly coz I had little left to shoot at the last two times.

Anyways it's too random, u can't build a strategy based on something u might roll.

You guys are talking about the 2 week old post right??

No but if your taking 5 guys who all can do it, its not a gamble (see flying thread of death).. (thats also the guard build methodology in a sentence), and the power of ermm and invisibility are also awesome- those are odds that make any house wince...
If you haven't done something to stop powers in 6th AND your not afraid of them..your playing wrong :P

I can also pretend I'm playing for fun, like cgra, when actually I'm tailoring to whatever you've got in your box.
