W40K Battle Report - TAU vs DARK ANGELS

Re: W40K Battle Report - TAU vs DARK ANGELS

I never fought with or against Tau, and probably the most famous (or infamous) batrep I ever saw was a French player against a German player. The German player had an all bike army. The Tau player deployed his army on the table, the German player decided to put his entire force in reserve, and the french player then infiltrated the entire Kroot forces on the German player's table edge. None of the bikes could come on the table leaving the TO scratching his head!

That said, it looks to be a shooty tau list vs a mostly shooty marine list. So the victor would come down to the usual variety of factors, tactics, use of cover, dice rolls, etc.

Without further data, predicting a victorious side would be nothing more than a 50% chance. I therefore postulate that the shooty army would have emerged victorious. ;)

I've edited the original post with the battle report video... hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think.

Kept it to 30mins as suggested, but forgot to make a standard intro for all of these, which is now top of my list for the next ones...

I tried to ignore it and concentrate on stopping him being able to pinch the DA relic. I mean, how would Azrael have been if we went back and said the Tau have it. Best just to say it was lost again... ;)

Who ever gets first blood on that mission has a massive advantage. The relic is hard to secure and usually the game ends on the secondary missions. Making first blood crucial, as only one side can get it.

In hindsight I think the tornado, one of them, could have been taken as a troop choice and then become scoring/denial... but need to check that.

good report.
A few glitches though:
1) At times your voice was drowned out by the music.
2) Some of the close camera work in the ruins was so shaky I felt a little ill. Try holding the camera back with slower movements. Same thing for the dice rolls for the bikes and fire warriors. Most of the rolls weren't even on screen! haha
3) I think perhaps introducing your opponent who was restricted to groin shots until the very end might be a good idea.
4) At 4.30 and 29.38 I distinctly saw some 'dark angles' No idea what faction they are... ;)

However, very entertaining, and seeing a 'subpar' army win against a tournie favourite in a very close fought game is pleasing.

I don't understand point 4. :)

Thanks for all the other comments. Yes you picked up on a lot I noticed myself. Youtube has a facility to stabilise the image and it removes a lot of Shake but at the cost of quality it seems, though I've only seen the preview and never pressed save.

Yes the subpar list was made even more subpar by only being able to choose from the models with the most paint on them. Lol. After picking the list as the table was being set up I then noticed that I have units from across the codex.

Not sure about the official intros to the players though. I would feel obliged to appear also then, which it was trying to avoid. ;)

Well, I agree with Angelwings points. Particularly the volume issue. I don't know what you can do to take care of that. At a few points your (soft spoken) voice was drowned out by the music. I have put the volume up to about max on my computer to listen to you, then the music came on! I was actually looking for a CC button to get subtitles to be able to at least read what you were saying.

And I think you did a great job introducing the army lists at the beginning of the video, it would be good to introduce the players at that point as well. Just a quick shot of you and your opponent would be fine.

I know you want to only show off painted models and terrain (both of which look great BTW) but in future, I might recommend that you put together the list you want and if one or tow models are unpainted, throw a quick prime and drybrush on them. I like looking at the well painted models, but I like to see a balanced engagement as well. Hope that makes sense. I mean, it's not like you and your opponent are fielding full armies of great unwashed gray plastic! One or two primed one is certainly forgivable.

ANd lastly, the bunkers really did turn out nice, even the corrugated roofs? Were they playable in game? Were units allowed to occupy them? Just curious because none did.

Thanks for the comments TW.

There is one part of the video where you're not really supposed to hear what's going on, that's the dice rolling of the small bike combat. I left the audio in so you got a sense it was live. But nothing is really said of great note in there, other than, "yipppeee we got you finally" type thing. In hindsight I should of left the audio off there.

The music during the army list was a little louder than I hoped also. Could of made that quieter. But generally I try to not talk when the music is playing. The mic was mentioned last time also, and I still have yet to try another, this time I want a 3.5mm jack one rather than a usb. But if I remember to keep my voice slightly high it seems ok. But the difference between that an the quiet in actual speaking is nothing, the mic just doesn't seem to pick it up as good and its exaggerated as really quiet.

Bunkers were used but only by me so I could forget the models were in there :( ... They were just not in the area of the table where the action was going on, so under used. The roofs come off and models can be placed inside them easily.

As for using painted models or undercoated models also; the terminators were just white with a cepia wash :( But any less than that comes away from the concept of top quality models and video coverage, the all round experience of the hobby...

I'm painting a lot more now so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. Even seeing the same list fight other armies is ok for a while; with maybe one or two new additions each time. The DA for may have been thrown together, but it was done so by a pro who knows how to use them lmao ;)

Im hoping to have another report in the bag soon also, maybe too quick to change much, but we'll keep trying to improve... thx again.

Easy Angelwing, he's just being obtuse!

And while we're on it, allies is the correct spelling for the plural of ally, ally is the correct singular, not allie!

BAh, a typo not picked up by spell checker coz it is still correct. I'm becoming too reliant on that thing :(
