Ljundhammer does aeronautica

Postby Ljundhammer » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:43 am

I saw Spack & stunty playing this over the AoS weekend a few weeks ago & liked what I saw...

Having played a couple of games, and the wife being as patronisingly enthuastic as she can be, I've taken the plunge & bought a few flights. I'll be kicking off with a couple of Imperial navy & Tau aircraft, before moving into Eldar.

So, Imperial to begin with, as they are he ones I'm most used to painting at a 40k scale & are much more 'straight lined' than either Tau or Eldar. I'm hoping that this will allow me to 'ease into' the 6mm scale before takling something more difficult.

I have approx 150-200 points of Imperial Navy stuff, depending on load outs, so I'm starting with the classic Thunderbolt to get me into the swing. The theme I've chosen for this flight is aircraft of WW2. My Thunderbolts will be going for the classic Me109 paint scheme wich made me run around holding my genitals as a small child:

I'm thinging it's either Fortress Grey or Space Wolf Grey for the underside & up the sides, with Codex Grey on top. Any thoughts would be appreciated, otherwise I'll get all my paints out & see what fits best...

The Thunderbolts are cleaned off & will be glued tonight, ready for painting this week. Updates will follow as I can be bothered!

There's a colour comparison chart on dakka, easily found with a search.
It compares manufacturers and decodes the names of.
Might have a "feldgrau" historical to citadel or somesuch. :D

Update, but no pictures :(

2 Thunderbolts made - they go together like a dream (once you figure out that the engine exausts are right & left handed anyway...). I hadn't realised how short the section behind the pilot is, so I'm having to rethink my identification marks (was going to run them in a similar position to the aircraft inthe prctures above, but no space - I'm thinking up how I'll do it...). I think the colour scheme will work though.

Also put together 2 baracudas. Really not impressed by these at all. The engines at the back are just flat lumps of resin which I've dug out to form exhaust vests (I'll probably need to tuidy up with some GS once I've seen a bit of paint on them). One of them has lost one of its front flight vanes too. I've noticed that my other pack has the same issue - I'll be getting onto Forge World about that I think... But I chopped them off & smoothed round the one I've put together & it looks quite good without them!

All models are magnetised on bases (and all the same way round - a record for me!). Started spraying last night, only to find out I've rn out of chaos black spray - a first for me!

I'll post some pictures when I have something useful to show...

When doing these, this site might be of help:

https://sslrelay.com/www.domsdecals.co. ... shopscript

1:144 1:300 and 1:600 decals for aircraft, you might find some useful to bring your flights together in a theme.

The P51 D schemes might work better?

Lots of Red tailed P51s and I always was a sucker for the silver paint scheme
