Went out to the Battle Bunker and played some AI

Postby Spacedwarv » Sun Jan 21, 2007 8:40 am

So I went to the Battle Bunker yesterday hoping to get like a baneblade or something big. However we all came out with Aeronautica Squadrons and this is my report of the 3 games I have played so far.

As Spack said the book is exquisitly written and has many pictures (yay!).This may be the best wargame I have ever played, it involves alot of strategy and very often. The entire game is basically trying to figure out what the opponents next move will be.

The first game was myself as the Imperium vs my friend and his xenos eldar scum. It was just a basic 4 thunderbolts against 3 Nightwing dogfight.
On the first turn my Thunderbolts wonderful midrange guns were able to take out two of his high point models. After that the superior manuverablity of the Eldar fighter was good enough to keep it alive for a few turns and even take out one of my 'bolts thanks to its superior everything. In the end though I was able to defeat the only race in Aeronautica with a armor save by tailing it with nearly two craft.

In case if you were wondering why it took 10 out of the 12 turns to take out his final craft is because the Eldar are essentially the Space Marines of Aeronautica (the Sm's only have the thunderhawk which can not kill a ant) whlist the Imperium is the good all rounders.

The next game was my friend and his orks vs. the store manager guy who was using the imperium. The first turn was almost retarded as that they were on the same altitude level and charged straight forward all guns blazing. Although both sides got like 6 shots a craft none were able to hit or wound. The next turn ended the game and was quite a bore. The manager used power dive and failed to dive low enough in altitude so my friends Orks wear able to wing over them and unleash the full firepower of the Ork's less than six inch prowness.

The next game was less of a game than a exhibition, the eldar player had to leave such that it was orks and imperium. We basically just pitted aircraft against each other to see what would win etc.

Overall I would say definiatley play this game, it is very cheap and very easy to learn and fun. :D

Check the Thunderbolt - when it's down to 1 hit left it has a save too :)
