Isn't that a result of the dreaded "first time being used in a game/newly painted model" pox?
First time I fielded my land raider, it got penned and "destroyed, explodes!" with the first shot against it! 8O (Necron heavy gauss cannon, S9)

Another wargame, or group of wargames I regularly play are Warhammer 40K on the PC (the whole series) Squad Command on the DS and Warhammer II and WHII Mark of Chaos through Steam. But I know we're just talking about tabletop games here.

possibly, though my inexperience wouldn't have helped - all the same, i took out all but one of his cruisers and had a 3 strong unit of Falchions (all that survived of my list) cripple that remaining cruiser

Sorry to derail the discussion but commenting in regard to the original post . . . :p

I have started playing Malifaux, but it isn't in the poll options. I have found it to be a really interesting skirmish-level game with unique mechanics and setting. I don't know how many know of it, but if you like Victorian Horror-Steampunk-Wierd West, you might have a look at the game.

Originally started with Lord of the Rings when I was younger, then quite recently found that the majority of people play 40K. I started with Necrons, then moved onto Space Wolves - which I can't get into at all! I'm currently looking into Imperial Guard. :D

How did you do with Necrons?
My regular opponent fields them.

I did quite well against some armies, but armies such as Chaos and Blood Angels I just couldn't beat. I was having to use things such as the Nightbringer wich was increasing my chances of phasing out with troops. I've got my Guard army now, still not managed to master a Blood Angels list as yet, but I'm getting there.

Good to see you again Moony!
Seems like it's been months!
Necrons aren't a bad force, just have to be played right.
I was never much of a fan of the Nightbringer.
Would rather use a couple of Monoliths. They almost can give a warrior unit hit and run.
Assault an enemy, take your licks but knock down a few.
Next turn, WBB, port through a Monolith for extra WBB (if needed) and send a different warrior unit in to mop up.
With sufficient warrior gauss shots was actually able to glance many SM vehicles to death!

I've never played guard, would be interested to hear how well you do with them against other armies.
