2013 Gaming and painting

Postby mattjgilbert » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:12 pm

What are your gaming, collecting/purchasing and painting plans for 2013?

I'll start:

Gaming
- Hopefully some Kings of War gaming in January to playtest my army for the Clash of Kings event in Feb. Kings of War on and off throughout the rest of the year.
- Warpath - playtesting the latest version of the rules to feedback to Alessio. I've not played a game since it came out :(
- 40K - we've promised BDA we'll play some games this year.
- DreadBall. We are planning a league as well as friendly games throughout the year.
- Storm the Castle - I got this via their kickstarter and it turns up in March(ish).
- Dropzone Commander. On and off. I _might_ pick up a starter army but no more than that. BDA has enough for us to play with.
- Other boardgames as normal when we've not planned anything else for a games night.

Collecting/purchasing
- Not too much on the purchasing side because I have a huge amount to paint as a backlog and have a ludicrous amount due to turn up this year following the Kings of War and DreadBall kickstarters and there will also be a Warpath one this year.
- I might get a DzC starter set as noted above.

Painting
- Finish elf army for Clash of Kings (plus helping 2 others get their armies ready)
- 5 Warpath armies! (Corporation, Enforcers, Veer-myn, Marauders, Forge Fathers)
- Ogre army for Kings of War
- Other KoW units for other armies
- I want to build a 3D dungeon (level 1) for Dwarf Kings Hold for demo gaming.
- DeadBall teams and MVPs

I think this painting list is ambitious to be honest. I'm certainly not going to plan any more than that.

Is this an open debate for everyone? If so...

Building/Painting

This will still predominantly be focusing on my Blood Angels. I have intended for some time to have a force that can be used with at least 3 Codecies (BA, SM, DA). So my plans are as follows.
- 2-3 more Terminator Assault Squads, possibly with some new DA goodness.
- Flyers (2 Storm Eagle/Ravens (converted). 2-3 Storm Talons (converted)
- Scratch build Thunderhawk
- Veterans (Sternguard/Vanguard/Sang Guard)
- 2 Sang Priests
- 3+ Landspeeders (conversions)
- Lots of Bikes
- Counts as Belial
- Counts as Pedro
- More Death Co. (updating old models)
- More Assault Squads (updating old models)
- More Deeadnoughts
- More Vehicles (Landraiders for Termies)
- 2-3 Chaplins
- 3 Librarians (including Mephiston conversion)
- other stuff I can't remember right now.

I have most of that in the cupboard already, so hopefully won't be spending too much. But as for non GW stuff...
I'm thinking of looking into:-

- Dropzone Commander
- Malifaux

The both look interesting and relatively small compared to my BA.

Well for me I'm going to be concentrating on my Dark Angels. I'm going to wait for the Codex to come out and probably be buying a few of the new models from it. So it'll definately be a green year for me next year! Maybe if the Dark Angels go ok I may return to my High Elves, although with nobody really playing WH at the Raiders this might fall by the wayside. Failing that I might actually have a proper look through Red Bear and come up with a new Soviet army and return to them.

However as usual I start the year with good intentions and then my enthusiasm for painting drops off dramatically. This isn't helped at the minute by me being able to play World of Tanks form over here!

I don't expect to be doing much at all and even that seems hopelessly optimistic.

Finally had desire for sonic termies crushed out of me, so their arms will fall off and a new noise marine squad appear (I have 18 done so far).
Some termies for stargods nightlords.

Then, maybe (yeah right) I might get to work on a bag 'o eldar I have got cheapo, tons of avengers, dragons and reapers, to breathe a bit of life into my biel tan, who have sat in their boxes for umpteen years.

Hmmm, who am I kidding?

Well there's Dreadball gaming and painting. I started painting some of the DKH models and I'd like to finish those sets. Haven't got anywhere with my Clash of Kings army so I guess I'll not be attending that. Aside from that I've got Sedition Wars and Freebooters Fate incoming (and Kingdom Death: Monster but that's Nov 2013 so really a 2014 project) plus I'd like to finish my Malifaux Crews too. If I can justify it I wouldn't mind picking up a few of the Norsgard models if I can.

I also need to sell off a cartload of GW stuff.

Gaming
Well GW will still feature strong on my gaming agenda as Monday Night Club is predominately WH40K & Fantasy.
My infrequent Thursday nights & occasional Saturday will be Flames Of War and Infinity.
Then once every 6 weeks my group game with mates of either WH40K or Fantasy.

Then we have the Tempus Fugitives Campaign Weekends: Betrayal - 30K Worldeaters and Gauntlet of Ind: Skaven Clan Eshin
Got Winter War Tournament at Reading one day event of Fantasy 2400pts
Planning to play a few more tournaments especially FoW ones.

Plenty of gaming!!!!
Will try and slip in an AOS meeting as well?

Collecting
With the New Year bringing Dark Angels Codex, looks like a few new toys to add to the collection, DW Knights, RW Knighs and Flyers.
Would like to get one of the new Malifaux Duel factions and see what the new plastic/resin is like?
Flames of War - BA-10 armoured cars for the Russians from Zvezda (plus another dozen Maltildas), Plastic Soldier looks to have a strong list of useful stuff to fill out my British and American collection.

Tempted with Drop Zone Commander (have the rules) but limited in opponents at clubs.
Finally - The Hobbit is a favourite with my Son, so have resurrected my Lord of the Rings models and likely to add more.

Looks like an ever increasing horde of plastic and rule books for 2013

Painting
Immediate need is to finish my Warriors of Chaos 2400pts force for Wnter War- progressing well and I have all next week on annual leave.
Then for Fantasy have my Clan Eshin Skaven 3000pts for Gauntlet of Ind
For Wh40K - All the extra Dark Angels, complete 3 forces - DeathWing, RavenWing and standard Power Armoured at 2000pts each.
Flames of War- finish my British 8th Army desert force, complete my Russian Tankovy and Strelkovy forces for MidWar. For LateWar paint up my Hungarian Tank Company (consisting of Panthers and Tigers)
Infinity - finish my Aleph 300pts force and start on my Yu Jing force.
Malifaux - finish both my Resurrectionist and Neverborn crews
Lord of the Rings - my Mordor skirmish force.

Special Models - Primarch Angron from Forgeworld, Suneater Child from Kingdom of Death (picked up cheap before Maelstrom collapsed).

All that is going to keep me busy over 2013

I shall start you off, 1 dollar per cart.
Does that mean reddevil is selling up too?
DaBoss wrote:Will try and slip in an AOS meeting as well?

There are none planned and the Brummy and Nottingham contingents decided to not go through the embarrassment of trying to beg for games on a similar system over 12 month buildups, so instead a quorate meeting of people who showed up decided instead to visit people and kind of travelling circus it, if you wish for a midlands contingent to visit you list details, dates and numbers that work and someone somewhere may get back to you(thats not put in an aggressive form merely that as a loose coalition the response requires a figurehead to take hold of the other end of the rope) We might start some kind of club on club hook up thread or something.
In the meantime I think LH is going to the march heat of throne of skulls.

Gaming

I'm loving how the new codexs don't need shiny newest to win games, and LH lives in fear of my new money for old rope lightning chaos.
He's moving away, Frog is still pulling 80 hour weeks +world of tanks, stuntys + the others are out there somewhere( although sparky has vowed that "just the dark vengance set for pickups"god knows what points braket that means I'm supposed to put together).etc Gaming peeps and gaming shops seem to have closed down over the last year (4 ish around me) I may stray back to GW vets night. :|
So I'm going to throw myself back in to the first date flirtations of random gaming clubs/dating scene of geeks again(where mostly beards play warhammer ancients and call me upstart youngling,I've been burned by BGG housegroups) I'll mostly be playing 40k, spacehulk (3rd) bloodbowl, dominion with a side of KOW when required.
Game cycle of maifaux, warmahordes, infinity, dust tactics, star trek(the ships on the hexagon matt one) etc seems to zoom by so quickly in fashion with groups,There is something in them, but people who say they'll play them don't crop up, or do but don't like me proxying, or are playing a variant/update I didn't catch. I'm kind of giving up on them apart from for novelties.
I'd like to find a local or online RPG pen and paper thingy, but the last time I raised it led to open geek warfare, so will probably limit it to computer games (which i haven't played at all really this year).
I'd like to try to do another video batrep at somepoint.

Painting
none-- maybe some cultists, maybe a rhino..I'm struggling to find the inclination to fill a pot with water let alone base coat stuff at the mo.

Collecting.
none-- no big whoopdedoo addons on horizon that will get played, may get a codex, I have pretty much everything else as long as pick up games don't insist I have red bikes one game, blue the next, and yellow spiky thereafter rather than blue black and purple bikes I actually own etc.
I may fall into the spack trap of woodwork etc, boy has started doing trains (both a cheap electric one glued to a board and a silly expensive large scale mammod legit steam engine)
I've hoarded up already, I may downsize a bit.
Barely even lurking..

I'm not selling everything, just getting rid of stuff I'll don't expect to touch again - so basically Astral Claws, Chaos Mehrines & Daemons and Militia are staying, everything else goes, High Elves stay, Warriors of Chaos might stay, Tomb Kings go. Random assorted/aborted projects all to be sold off.

Not at all! I don't have much GW, and definitely not things from armies I'm not collecting (unlike Sami, I never worked for GW).

For me:

Gaming = 40k, WH, KoW, Dreadball and Malifaux

Collecting = nothing; I have all the bits I need! I'll be working on a Salamanders army, plus assembling all my KoW and Dreadball Kickstarters.

Painting = something is better than nothing!!

Gaming:
40k or necromunda once a week, plus the yearly apoc game bash, and a possible AoS meetup if holidays coincide.

Collecting: Only if new tyranid stuff is released. I am however, very very tempted by the Kingdom Death kickstarter stuff.
Possibly downsizing stuff thats kicking about and will never get done.

Painting: finish the last gaunt brood, the ratlings and then look at the collection of individual models kicking around.

I am going to get all my Space Wolves finnished (about 10 Blood Claws and a few Wolf Guard in power armour)
One of the things I fancy is getting into Bolt Action but that will have to wait until I get the rules.

I also have a strange desire to get some of the new Chaos Cultists and make a Necromunda Gang.

Also I have all my 15mm WW2 stuff to get done

Painting: Well, I have my FoW Panzergrendiers to paint, and my SS to paint, then a few games of FoW to follow. I still have about 40 beastmen to paint for WFB, and I will probably add a Ghorgon to the list at some point this year.
I have a couple of Inquisitor models to finish - not sure how far into 2013 it will be before I pull these out!
I have no plans to continue 40K at the moment (still trying to come to terms with the abortion that is the 6th ed), so all the Flesh Tearers, Dark Angels and Fallen (CSM) I have yet to finish are not even close to the radar. I still have ALL the minis from the Dark Vengeance set in the box, pretty much untouched.

Nothing really to collect -just maybe the Ghorgon for my Beastmen. Oh, and about 8 Panzer IVs for FoW still needed.
