Bolt Action

Postby cgra1 » Tue Dec 31, 2013 1:30 pm

Hello All

Ive decided that next year I will concentrate on Bolt Action.
This is a game system that has been overlooked a little in our local club (not through lack of intrest, just lack of time) so Im going to finish painting up my Germans, Americans and maybe even think about finishing my British.
However one thing that I am not happy about is the Missions, they seem to be a little odd especially the one that allows you to not field anything on the table until the last turn and then run it all off.
Has any one seen any alternative mission or house rules that we could maybe implement to make the game flow better?

chris, I was talking to a couple of blokes at Waugh games the other week about this very issue, they were saying that for pick up games they only play the maximum attrition games and for arranged games they make there own scenarios up, either picking completely new ones or house ruling the old ones to fit. for the 'envelopment' scenario you mentioned they don't allow outflanking units, but extend the game to more turns say 8.
another idea I thought of was that you could have equal forces and play for 8 turns, or for each turn the attacker gives up he gets more points, so a 7 turn game the attacker gets 100 extra points, for a 6 turn game the attacker gets 200 extra points.
I think the main thing will be trying stuff like this out to get a feel for what works and creates a better balanced game.
theres a lot of gaming brains at the club, im sure we can come together and work something out, im going to run a bolt action campaign later on this year if theres enough interest
