Christmas... Humbug!

Postby Talus » Sun Dec 18, 2011 2:36 pm

alright, i'd like to get some thoughts on Christmas

this comes about in an odd way, in fact a rather depressing way

i get NO christmas cards! even those for the family are addressed to my parents + family! theres THREE of us in the house, mum, dad, me, yes ok, i know, 24 and living at home still is kinda weak, but im broke with an uncertain job future, but thats another thread for another time

am i over reacting to the whole not being named when the people sending these cards know exactly who lives here thing?

hell its the ''season'' in general that just pisses me off, the chaos in shops, i mean really, do people think the apocalypse is coming? what happened to ''good will to all men''? its like courtesy went the way of the dodo and other assorted flightless dino birds with pea sized brains

oh wait, that last bit describes most of the people that have told me to get the f out of the way the last few days!

ASDA in south bank is NOT a nice place to be at the moment >_>

right, ramble over for now

thoughts? horror stories?

Its an odd thing, the pressure of what I basically regard as Saturnalia as expected by the media demands;
You will be giving gifts that make people really happy and not care about your debt problem.
You will be receiving gifts that make you really happy (inc cards and wellwishing)
You will be larging it and hosting huge parties with buffets (costing only 12.99 from superco tm )that amaze your entire neighbourhood, who can all fit in your front room.
The pressure expectation to be happy (because the great TV tells us that EVERYONE ELSE IS) means anyone feeling how they did in October feels worse.GPs surgeries are full of people expecting that xmas fever should mean they feel better than normal therefore they must be depressed.
The demand by the economy that 40% of the years sales are reliant on being bottlenecked into the surrounding 6 weeks makes urban living (and working) intolerable. (and this year people trying to get bargains has made the burglary rate jump).

I'm quite enjoying this year as my wife did shopping ages back(I've tried my best and hated some in the past), both my kids were in plays (Dylan was a jumping elf and a sheep, Lily was an Angel and an Angel (typecast)) They set off to eurodisney middle of this week, leaving me to get wrecked and stumble around finding something to do with myself.

On individual point, should we turn this into a chanology motivational about wearing a smile as people like being around people who smile etc? how many xmas cards did you send out in early December (to obligate people into responding..quid pro quo).Leaving the lady of the house to do all communication means your not going to get a tailored and emotional letter from your 2nd cousin back just for you.

Happy Christmas Talus. :D

25% off closing down sale + Christmas Rush + Job Uncertainty for January + Taking as much in a 6 hour Sunday as we do in 9 hours on a Saturday during the rest of the year + working on my own with no break = Sapping all Christmas spirit out of Graham. I get 1 day off for Christmas and if the store wasn't closing I would have worked 11 days straight over new years.
As it is I have to go to another store 30 miles away for a week from the 2nd, 2 hours each way by bus.

Did almost (95%) of shopping online so all crowds and angry people avoided. Much calmer that way.

Yes Talus, if people know you live in the house it's a bit odd not to put your name.

Happy Christmas Talus.

Sorry to hear that ^ Graham.

I'm not going to put a huge rant, but say this instead.
For a selfish 'xmas' present I'd have:
1 pair steel toe capped boots.
1 pair knee pads.
1 pair leather gloves.
1 face protection mask.
1 pump action shotgun and plenty of ammo bandoleers.
1 baseball bat.
1 flask of accelerant
1 box of matches.
1 stuffed to the brim warehouse full of christmas decorations, minus staff.

I play chicken with department stores.

Started shopping 2 weeks ago & bought at shops with unadvertised "one day only sales". Ignore weekend just gone, the plebs have lost the chicken game at that point. Thursady of this week for most of the remainder.

People I won't see until after Christmas get bought for after christmas!

Whoah there neddy, I merely meant 'everybody sad.. your not abnormal'/comrade post.

When I say this is a nice christmas I was just trying (for once) to be brief.. this will be the first xmas in 3 years where my kids have been well. This will be the first Christmas in 5 years where I'm allowed to see my father on the day. I've had 2 really good Christmases previously one when I was about 13 I organised everything for my wider nuclear family at my grans, and one about 4 years ago I hosted at mine and we had the whole thing of 25 people just dropping in throughout the day bringing food.-I've had xmas days where we've had to go to A+E, ones where my brother in law shoulder barged me down a flight of stairs because he'd got bored of hosting, and ones where it was just me and my mum because the divorce was silly and my sister had better things to do.

(This bit will drive LH crazy)..People with consistently high pressure jobs develop coping mechanisms, in the city pay and performance cash is just a way of keeping track of whose winning at the farmville (tm) app of life.
It helps to be able to slightly distance yourself from where you are.. everybody is so convinced everything must be here and must be now and tangible.. it makes it very hard for people in tough times to actually have nice moments constantly comparing themselves to the coke adverts.
Bill Hicks:
The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride..." But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus - murdered; Martin Luther King - murdered; Malcolm X - murdered; Gandhi - murdered; John Lennon - murdered; Reagan... wounded. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

I know intensive care nurses who are more likely to take a tequila day than angelwing...(and thats why they don't need 2 trenchcoats and an assortment of projectile weapons) :)

The only bahs I have this year are:
1) spent my half day off on Friday making several trips to B&Q for gravel and I still didn't get enough
2) I don't dare drive anywhere if I can at the moment as getting a space when I come back is tough
3) Can't drink much Xmas day due to over-crowding at my parents meaning no where to sleep

All my shopping has been done online so far, a few little bits I have to get myself left now, but I can go late night so should 't be too bad.

left and right relic shins, left and right thighs (from relic kit), mounting for the fingers from the claw

essentially, half the dread

the body was kinda funky, but cleaned it up no real bother
