Count your scars!

Postby Talus » Mon Jan 05, 2015 5:39 pm

For those of you that have met me in person, you'd probably noticed that my left hand is covered in scars, all rather knife shaped :P

what you probably dont realise, is that i can name each model i was doing when i got each one! and half of them are forge world >_>

seriously, that resin is a nightmare to work with!

well, last night i took a chunk out of my right thumb while cleaning up a resistance dropship, and in the two hours it took to stop the bleeding, i had a thought

am i the only one who does this badly when cleaning models up?

so, here we are now, with two questions

do you fare just as badly when cleaning models?
and just how many model making scars do you have?!

I have 18 on my left hand, 3 on the right, 4 once this chunk of thumb heals up!

next!

The natural questions to ask are : are you clumsy? Are you using blunt blades and cutting towards yourself? Does your IQ and memory retention drop sharply when you pick up a hobby knife? :P

apart from last night, yes i use dulled blades, i'd changed it earlier in the day to cut a stencil, didnt swap them back before i started

sometimes its towards myself, sometimes not, depends on the mold line angle and how i can hold it

my IQ drops every time i think about models lately... see my hands are starting to be affected by Arthritis, its getting harder to hold a brush, its why i dont post pictures here anymore...

and... depressed...

Wow. I've got no scars at all after 28 years of gaming and cleaning/hacking apart models. What the hell are you doing!?

I have a small scar on my left hand near the base of my index finger thanks to pushing too hard using a GW sculpting tool, where I was prising two pieces of plastic apart on my Valkyrie scratch build and slipped.

Other than that I don't think I have any gaming hobby scars on my hands. The rest are from a metal cupboard when I was 12 at school (cut straight to the bone on my right middle finger when reaching up to the top shelf), a piece of graphite from a retractable pencil in my left hand next to the above mentioned scar, tiny mark on my left thumb from a snake bite (boa constrictor, luckily not a venomous species), and a few others I can't remember the origins of.

On my head I've split the top of the scalp three times (hit with a spade, fallen off a bicycle, fell over on a marbled floor), one on my right temple from the corner of a concrete step, swollen top light due to putting teeth though it a few times (the last time being thrown over the handlebars of aBMX while jumping over a bush).

I think that covers most of my medical history :)

Blunt blades are generally a bad idea, while cleaning mould lines I tend to do more damage slipping due to using more force with a blunt blade, where using a fresh sharp blade results in easy cutting and rarely a cut.

well in addition to the 18 on my left from model work, i have half a finger print missing on my middle finger from a close encounter with a circular sander at school, was sanding down a box that i'd made, got jabbed in the ribs by the prat of the class, box slipped, box flew off, hand hit the sander, if i'd been an inch to the right, i'd have hit it going down and lost a bit more than a finger print!

on my right ive got two finger nail scars below my index finger where some guy grabbed me (he had finger nails like edward scissorhands!)

again on the right hand i have a parrot bite

two small scars on my cheek from where i bit a glass when i was little (really little)

a tiny scar on my top lip, remnant of a parrot bite (the cow hated me!)

scar on the top and bottom of my right foot from where a grass spiker went through it 22 years ago

small scar in my right eye brow from god knows what

scar on my left forearm from where i was stabbed with a pencil at school (you'll gather i wasnt popular :P)

scar in my left thumb knuckle from where i stabbed myself cutting swiss roll (laugh and i ban you!)

thats all of them i think!

good lord Frankensteins Monster had less scars!

I injure my self all the time. I'll drill into my fingers cut and file gouges out of my self on the regular. I currently have a puncture wound on my right thumb from picking up a bit of terrain in the wrong place (damn spiky GW buildings). I don't have any lasting scares though. Saying that I really don't scare easy at all you have to really hunt for my operation scares from my knee surgery.
What, no image sigs!

I don't have any scars from modelling. Although I do cut my finger tips every now and then.
I do have various scars over my body from work but that's a whole different ball game. :-)

There are billions and billions and billions throughout the galaxy, and if even a fraction have planets orbiting them and if even a fraction of those planets can support life and if even a fraction of those actually have life on them and....

oh.....

crap......

scars, not stars.

Nevermind. :(
