Day light bulbs.

Postby ruffian4 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 11:23 am

Do any of you lot use these things for painting at night?
It's pissing down here and the light is crap as usual, wondered if they are any good.
Had a quick look around, the ones I saw were blue (makes sense), but do they screw with your colours???

Blimey, not even 1 doooooble entendre!

Hi, I used to sell those bulbs!

The blue ones are perfect as they emulate natural light. You should get a nice clean light to paint by and they won't mess with your paints.

Have fun!

I thought about using them, but decided against it and went, instead, for a proper hobby lamp. Best £20 I have ever spent on a hobby related item. I got it from Hobby Craft. It was being promoted at the time October/November (when clocks went back - a good time for promoting lighting), but they have promoted it before. I found that finding a suitable lamp to take a daylight bulb was tricky...

Hobby lamps have the added benefit of having a magnifying glass too!

Its not on their website - it was a store only deal, but it was a bit like the table lamp from this one (except my one has a cover on top for the magnifying lense). Had a ring bulb (instead of LEDs) and the bulb is only £6.99:

I've occasionally used one but I normally use it for adding light when taking photographs rather than when painting. They are good though so worth investing in.

Cheers guys!
I found that Maplins do a 100watt for £2.99, so might test the water with that.

How odd.
Before I logged in, there was an add at the bottom of the page for lightbulbs.
Does this mean I have contributed to the Spack benevolent fund?

If so, next week there may be a thread on cat food. Yes, cat food.
If I say cat food often enough, does this generate revenue cat food?

@ Ogregut: sorry, no. It was a store only one. I have seen it on promo 3 times (last one was in Oct/Nov when I bought it). At some point I'll take a pic (unfortunately I threw the box away).
