Mechwarrior online

Postby gleep » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:33 am

I have played and do still play the Battletech TT game, and have played all of the PC games that have come out,

with the Open Beta just round the corner (17th July ) i for one will be spending a large amount of my spare time blowing up Big battlemech's night and day (wife and work Permitting)

is there any one else on the Forum that will also be playing ? and if you are you going Merc or faction ?

anyway something to talk about

Oh, I used to play this back in the day.

It was awesome!

Doubt I have the PC power or the time to play it though :(

Do you have any links?

I assume the URL is this one: http://mwomercs.com/

FAQ says "A. We currently do not have final PC system specifications" which is pretty useless when it comes to trying to figure out if a PC will run it or not ... :(

Did find a post in the forums on that site suggesting that the spec release will be "imminent" though.

As it's running on CryEngine 3, suggestions are to take Crysis 2 specs as highly likely:

•Windows XP/Vista/7 (with the latest SP)

•Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 2GHz

•2 GiB of RAM (3 GiB on Vista/7)

•9 GiB free hard disk space

•NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or ATI Radeon 3850 HD with 512 MiB of VRAM

That's a pretty reasonable min spec, my 3 year old budget system might just about handle it as I have an Intel Dual Core E5200 (not a Core 2 Duo, but runs well enough to beat the 2Ghz ones), 4GB RAM, and a GeForce 9600GT.

I have a laptop with a screen and a keyboard and lots of gubbins inside it that make it work. No idea what they do, I think I used to know about 10 years ago...

Oh, I've got a mouse I can plug into it too. 21st Century bro!

You've got an I5 with 6gb of ram, and a dedicated graphics card thingy (ati i think) in your win 7 laptop.. I vaguely remember looking when you switched on for first boot and being envious.
Should do fine.

http://mwomercs.com/news/2012/06/287-of ... per-update
On July 10th, we are scheduled to move to our production hardware, allowing many thousands of simultaneous players to enjoy the game, also known internally as the launch of Closed Beta 2. As we continue to ramp up the beta testers (drawn from those early purchasers of the Founder’s Program), the next milestone is the injection of the Founder’s Program assets on Aug. 7th.

Yes, this date has shifted from July 17th to Aug 7th simply due to some key production hardware being delayed in arriving at the data center – proper testing on the new production hardware, ensures confidence the system can handle the demands of the exclusive Founder’s Program, hence the shift.
MechWarrior Online Minimum System Spec:

CPU:

Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz

Athlon II X2 245e

GPU:

GeForce 8800GT

Radeon HD 5600/5700

RAM: 4 GB

OS: Windows Vista 32-bit

DirectX: DX9

HDD Space: 4 GB
MechWarrior Online Recommended System Spec:

CPU: Core i3-2500 AMD Athlon II X4 650

GPU: GeForce GTX 285 Radeon HD 5830

RAM: 8 GB OS: Windows 7 SP-1 64-Bit

DirectX: DX9

HDD Space: 4 GB

Right now a duo core system is our minimum spec machine but it is also our main focus of concern. It is playable on those specifications and I have tested it myself but it is currently very much a minimum spec type of experience running on low-detail settings. It’s obvious that a Quad core system is the key as even the earliest Core 2 Quad systems run the game very well and it is our goal (since there are still so many out there), to optimize the Core 2 Duo systems to run much faster.

I trust this gives you guys all the information you need to be the best beta tester, potential Founder’s Program patron or simply a consumer of MechWarrior Online. Sorry if one or more items aren’t exactly as you would have hoped, but we’re working hard and we truly feel that all signs thus far demonstrate that the core experience of MWO is everything we could have hoped for and now, we just need to keep adding layers of features.

So its a pay to play, but at mo is in (free) closed beta and we apply for keys... I know a few people who did that for eve etc... but tbh I'm not really ready for when they pull the rug out from under me and start charging X£s per month..
or is it free?

I did play the original PC games years ago and loved them but as its a pay to play its a no from me, working away I just won't get the use out of it as I am only back home around three months a year and the internet over here isn't good enough to do online gaming. Pity as I would at least liked to have given it a go. Oh well, WoT it is for me.

From what I've read it's a free to play game (and says as much on the site and in various writeups) with optional paid for content, much like World of Tanks for instance. In WoT a paid account will generally upgrade quicker as they earn more in-game cash and experience, buy better crews/equipment, create larger platoons, etc. You can also purchase unique vehicles that are not available to free players, although you don't need a subscription to buy them so free players can still spend cash in one-off purchases to access them.

I'm in Pending, but doubt I'll see anything until open beta comes along. My PC is slightly above min spec other than the CPU which is about equivalent, will be interesting to see if it's playable.

As to WoT, just waiting for the 0.7.4 patch to finish downloading ...

Just downloading 7.4 myself, might as well use works bandwidth, pity I can't play it till I get back in to the country. :( . If Mechwarrior is a "freemium" game like WoT then I might give it a whirl when it gets to open beta, make it into the recommended specs, processor creams it but graphics card only just.
