For me it depends on the season. In the winter when the conservatory is too cold to paint in, I sit under a daylight lamp, tanning the one side of my face as it's over my shoulder, and paint on a lap tray in front of various TV box set series's. In the warmer weather I sit at a table in the conservatory, and generally listen to lots of very heavy music. (It CaLmS My nErVeS!) ;-)

I like painting while having the golf on. If there is no golf then it will usually be something I have watched before. I do sometimes paint with friends, then it will be some background music or film.
I find it helps to have a deadline (I need this model for next weeks game) for motivation these days.

Seems most off us are the same, lol. I too watch box sets of Sci-fi I have watched many times before. SG1, Atlantis, Star Trek (any series), BSG, Babylon 5, Eureka... etc etc. I am bored of those (or the wife just doesn't want to see them again, lol) What ever happens to be on TV. In times past, I used to listen to music with military movie/game feel, my fave being the music from the PS1 Doom games.

Thats the thing though - we all want to look up occasionally at an exciting part, but generally just want the story to listen to while we paint. I find I paint more when I have no new series or films to watch. Otherwise I end up watching the film and getting no painting done! ;-)

Don't give up yet hunter, trust me, you are definately the one who can't spell! (tongue in cheek sarcasm and humor here, hunter! I can still read what you write with little to no difficulty!!) 8)

Same here! Having a film on gives me the chance to look up from time to time to let the eyes relax and focus for a bit. But when I get a new film, I dont try to paint while it's on!
But working on terrain pieces is a different story!
