Painting Habbits

Postby Talus » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:14 pm

been curious about this for a while now

what is it you do while you paint?

personally, i need a distraction while i paint, as odd as that sounds its actually more to do with refocusing my eyes! i have terrible eyesight, which at 24, isnt something im really proud of but i swear its genetics (cheers dad!), so every 20 minutes or 50 brush strokes, i need to look up/away and refocus in order to carry on.

usually i accomplish this by watching a movie or work my way through a tv series while painting away, in fact there is actually a direct link between whats painted, and the size of my dvd/blu ray collection :P it rivals HMV Middlesbrough's bottom floor!

...

...

...

ok so not that bad, but theres alot, and i can actually tell you what i was watching while i painted certain things

for example, the warhound was Stargate SG-1 series 3-7 along with Brandon Lee's 'The Crow' (see reference to that series of films in my next assault squad) and the karate kid (new one) as evident by the Bonsai that made it to the back of the hull :P

so, what do you do while you paint? music? films?

used to play Homeworld 2 while painting, before i upgraded to win 7 that is... homeworld doesnt like 7... i miss that game...

I tend to put a movie or tv series on that Ive already watched so I can just listen to while painting.

Lately however I been listening to gaming podcasts.

I put on a movie I've seen numerous times or a war documentary.

After painting, reading, focusing for 20 or so minutes I also have to look up and away for a short time to kind of re-focus my eyes.

So genetics has nothing to do with, it's the way the human eye was constructed.

But I'll have a word with the 'builder' for you if you wish.

I just paint. I've got no special routine or anything else I need to have on in the background. If someone has the TV or radio on then fine. If not, it doesn't bother me.

I normally watch horror, but its the worst thing to paint to.
Tip to my painting is I either have a small tray with paints,2 brushs, jar of water and models to paint on a high shelf ready to get down.. or I'm not painting that month.
A good long shuffle on winamp is good.
Builder games always have that 10% chance of a sudden thing interupting the 10minutes boring bit so I cook during those (much easier to dash back and forth to them).

Really? even though MS says its not compatible a quick web check shows it should be.

I paint in my living room on a little table that kills my back.

Usually watching whatever the wife is watching. Last night was Universtity Challenge followed by Only Connect, followed by Dragons Den - sky+ for the win!

I got myself one of these badboys a couple of weeks ago - can't recommend highly enough!

When the wife's out I'll normally put some Mythbusters or somesuch on the telly, or listen to some science podcasts on the computer. I normally have the computer near me as all my painting receipies are saved on my PMs to myself here!

Living with parents means al my painting and modeling stuff has been banished to a shed. Thankfully it's still in range of the WI-FI so I normally boot up Youtube on my phone and listen to whatever I can find. Does mean my painting rate drops during the winter though.

I have learned the lesson that listening to too much Mock the Week while painting can cause issues as It can be quiet hard to get paint where you want it when you're laughing.

Pink like Dildo Bogends, or perhaps boltgun metal.

Music for me. I kind of ration listening to paiting time.
Come to think of it, consumables too.
My purple plague people "occurred" during a heavy cold, which had me drinking loads of hot blackcurrant juice.
Eldar after a bout of rabies and my plague marines, after a gone-off pizza reheat hallucination.

I like this one.

Habits. I eat the paint off my brush instead of punting it in water to clean. I tend to listen to the radio or one of a million tracks on Itunes.

Tho of late I have been painting when on the net at the same time s eating to. Possible case of multitasking. can it be tru? My partner seams to think so.
disclamer. i cnt spell due to been dislexic or dropt when born. tho the 2nd has never been admitted.

Most of my painting is accomplished wile waiting for my daughter to do her Gymnastics in the evenings and at weekends, so to drown out all the other parents chatter its an IPod with some chill out music.

luckily for me that currently means i get around 5hrs dedicated painting in, so i need loads of different music.

I sit in the corner of the lounge on my designated painting/PC desk with the computer to my left and just concentrate on the painting. The house could be burning down and I still wouldnt notice.

The only time I sit up from painting is to get the kids to make me a cuppa!
