Poor Ebay Service from acolyte_games

Postby RotweillerofJustice » Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:20 pm

I just thought that I would start a thread about an ebayer called acolyte_games.

I won two hammerhead tanks from him on 21-03-10 and emailed him to see if he would combine the postage as it was £4.99 per item. Now I can forgive over inflated postage charges if the seller is willing to combine. This was his response:-

Hi Lee,

I'm afraid not. I've packaged up all the items I'm selling individually, so I've already paid for postage/boxes/bubble wrap etc.

Thanks,

Peter

As soon as I read his response I paid in full like a good ebayer.

To my disgust the items arrived today in the condition shown in the photo below. What the photo doesn't show is that the item was not even sealed down one side of the box. I am also disgusted that he did not wrap the box so that other persons would not know what it was or could be.

I have emailed the seller asking for a refund on one of the postage as follows.

Dear SIrs,

Thankyou for sending out this item with the other Hammerhead that I received today.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I had asked you if you would combine postage for both these items to which you responded as follows.

I'm afraid not. I've packaged up all the items I'm selling individually, so I've already paid for postage/boxes/bubble wrap etc.

I left this as it was but having received your package today I am thoroughly disapointed at how you sent it. My first point is the blatant lie that you had packaged the items and spent money on packaging before the auction.
My second point is the poor way in which the item was packaged. The box was not wrapped so no one would guess what it was and it was also not sealed properly.

In view of this I would like asked for a refund on at least £4.99 for the second postage which was clearly never used.
I look forward to your swift response.
Lee Baker

I will let you know what he says.

It looks like a very paid for box and bubble wrap. Hope you get your money back.

I would file a complaint with Ebay as well.

Grief, that's bad.

I've only ever had two poor packaging moments on eBay, both quite a few years ago - first was £60 of Necrons for my brother-in-law, which arrived packed with newspaper in a Stella Artois can box (very flimsy!) wrapped in a sheet of plain paper, most of the models were in pieces when they turned up. Seller never responded to my emails.

The second was a fully built and painted Valkyrie for which I paid £8 for Special Delivery (which I thought was fine, as Special Delivery is expensive) - the box turned up 2nd class post, with newspaper for packing and the Valkyrie was in several pieces. When I contacted the seller asking why it wasn't sent Special Delivery he said he didn't realise when SD was, he'd just copied another auction he'd seen for something and it was his first sale.

For both of these I didn't push too far - this was back when buyers could receive negative feedback and I decided I'd just chalk them up to experience rather than risk negatives.

I'd suggest contacting the seller and pointing out that he's violating eBays terms, he's only allowed to charge a reasonable amount for postage and packing and obviously he hasn't done so here. Charging £9.98 for that is a clear breach, and point out that if he doesn't partially refund the postage you'll be filing a complaint with eBay for violation which may result in his account being suspended. Given that he can't file negative feedback you've got little to lose.

What's this guy's ebay feedback score. My advice is don't deal with anyone under 98% and over 50 transactions.

Having said that, I don't buy off ebay anymore, too many bad experiences:

Jesus christ, if I received something like that I wouldn't just ask for the postage for refund. I'd send the whole thing back, want a full refund and expect HIM to pay my postage costs!

That's just nuts, and another reason I don't buy models already built. :(

Generally speaking I have had some very good experiences with models on ebay. This guy has taken the p**s this time tho. He is clearly using the postage to subsidise his auction winnings.

Seeing the quality of your painted models hunter, that's really no surprise!

Only time we have had problems with ebay packaging was a mug that Kate bought (she collects them): it wasnt in a box, just wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap and a sheet of brown paper - nothing to protect the handle at all, which arrived detached from the mug and in several pieces. That was years ago... not sure what even happened about it. :|

Not very good packaging. Apart from asking for your cash back, you can put a single star in the feedback under the postage category.
