The AoS gamer's challenge

Postby mattjgilbert » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:44 pm

Stolen from the Mantic Forums, the idea is to keep track through the year of the models you have bought, assembled and painted. The goal at the end of the year is to have painted more then you bought. i.e. an overall reduction in the massed pile of plastic!

Check back in as you make headway - perhaps once a month and of course blogs and the like are fair game.

Anything purchased in 2013 but that has not yet turned up yet (e.g. kick starters) still counts against you if it turns up in 2014!

I'll start.

So far I've managed to assemble 16 models, paint none but buy none either. So my initial report is:

Models bought: 0
Terrain bought: 0
Models assembled: 16
Terrain elements assembled: 0
Models painted: 0
Terrain elements assembled: 0

I'll keep terrain and models (miniatures) separate in the record because I have a lot of each and they are different things requiring different effort.

I have ordered a load of Ogres but I'll not count those until they show up just to keep things looking good for as long as possible.

Good anticipation of my first question, but on that basis I see no point in tracking this ;)

he's off to Afgan soon guys and won't be back till August, so you can just start recording then Al...

@ bara I don't follow?

Terrain bought... I bought some vinyl tiles today to base some terrain on, does that count towards anything?

And models painted means completed yes? I never consider my models painted though... I like to get them to gaming standard and then leave them open ended for detailing later maybe... I'll go with gaming standard means completed and that completed means painted.

Models bought: 0

Models assembled: 1

Models painted: 31 - (and 51 a good way down the line)

Well you (we) could track KS stuff from 2013 separately in a "I know this is turning up so I'll simply acknowledge it but not count it" line?

The tiles don't sound like they count but it's up to you really.

Yes - I mean gaming standard, whatever you consider a model is to a point you will use it in a game and is "finished" for you.

A lot of this is subjective. You also don't have to count any terrain like I am if you don#t want to. I only added it to my record as I've got a lot of Deadzone stuff I need to do.

I'll be downloading and printing buildings for Dropzone commander. While I'll be paying for the card/foam core, glue etc to mount them on, the buildings themselves are free from the manufacturer. So I'm not going to count the towards terrain bought.

Currently painting the Broadside I was given for Xmas. That and a Scout Biker were all I got this year. :-( Have to say I am liking the fact that you can build two of three different types of Drone with the Broadside kit. I did cheat a little and raid my spare drone parts so I could make all four drones which are a shield drone, marker light drone and two missile pod drones, (all three types).

I have a a serious back log of 40K models to finish painting and assembling as well as some other bits like a Tamiya King Tiger and some Op Herrick stuff from Airfix.
I will leave you with a WIP of the Broadside. You can see the drones in the paint pallet. :-)
