The Phoenix Wargamers Club / Darksoul Warning

Postby Spack » Tue Jul 13, 2010 4:07 pm

You've probably ended up on this page due to a search engine hit or via http://www.phoenixwargamersclub.com , while looking for the old Phoenix Wargamers Club site at http://www.thephoenixwargamersclub.com (note - the site is no longer there!). First up, Phoenix Wargamers Club is dead and gone, thanks to the domain owner not transferring it to me despite my having paid for it's renewal, and then disappearing leaving me with just the secondary domain and no way to recover the domain I'd paid for. But that's not the reason I've posted up this thread. It's a warning about Thomas Sexton, aka Darksoul.

Two years ago I sent a total of $123 to Thomas Sexton, known as Darksoul on the Phoenix Wargamers Club and on various other sites, to buy some figures from the Jungle Fighters and Tank Commander projects on the Phoenix site. I'd already bought into the earlier female "cadian" figures, as well as the female guard accessories, and received everything I'd ordered. The jungle fighters project kept slipping (initially due to having to find a new sculptor), and the tank commander project ended up being canned. But by summer 2009 Darksoul had the female jungle fighters cast and ready to ship, and I told him to use the money from the tank commander project to send the jungle fighters via an insured service. and that's where everything started going wrong. Firstly, the Phoenix website was hacked (well, the site owner's PC was hacked, and in turn infected the website with a very nasty payload!), and eventually died (thanks to said site owner disappearing leaving the transfer incomplete). This made it a little awkward to get hold of Darksoul, but I did have his email addresses from the Paypal transactions I'd sent the year before, and from the Phoenix forums (where I was an admin). I eventually managed to make contact on the 28th October 2009 after having sent repeated emails, where Thomas claimed that he'd sent them but that "the package never showed up in their system". No mention as to which system this referred to (USPS? UPS? DHL?), and after he said he'd send a replacement package I never heard from him again in 2009 despite sending numerous emails.

I finally managed to track Darksoul down in March 2010 to Bartertown, and on the 15th March he told me he had two packages ready to send to me "tomorrow or Wednesday.. so you should have them next weekend...". We exchanged a few PMs that day, and then nothing - just like October 2009. So I waited ... and waited ... nothing. On the 26th March I sent him another PM asking if he had a tracking number for the package. No reply. I waited a few more weeks, send another PM - nothing. Another few weeks - nothing.

A friend (who shall remain nameless unless he tells me otherwise) has been in touch with Darksoul and he claimed he had sent the parcel to me, and was going to send another replacement, that was a few weeks ago. I've received no messages from Darksoul via Bartertown PM or email to tell me what's going on, and now he's no longer replying to messages from my friend either.

And that's the situation so far. I'm $123 out of pocket, no response from Darksoul of any kind to either me or anyone else I know in the past few weeks. Recently a few people have contacted me asking if I had contact details for Darksoul as they've received nothing from him either for female guard casts.

Given his attitude (or rather lack of it!) I can only recommend to anyone thinking of sending money to Thomas Sexton to avoid dealing with him. Should the situation change I will update this topic. Thomas, if you see this post, then feel free to send me a message; you can use the Private Message system here on Age of Strife, or at Bartertown, or by replies to my emails, it's pretty easy to get in touch!

Out of the blue a package arrived at my house today with the figures in. Still no contact from Darksoul, not even to let me know they were on the way. I'd still recommend anyone thinking of buying anything from him to consider carefully whether they are prepared to have to wait a long time and without any communication though.

Yes, all 20 figures were there. The casts of the torsos are clean, the legs have lots of flash, and some of the heads have vents in odd places like over eyes, but it can all be cleaned up pretty easily. I'll post pics over the weekend.

Alls well that ends well, I suppose.
It is a shame that we have these characters, though, assuming no extraordinary circumstances, of course.

even then though if he's had the opportunity to now post them, then surely there is time to say "sorry, don't wish to go in to details, but had real life issues, are now on way"

what does the post mark say? when were they sent?

Hello, everyone. I just registered so I could try and get a hold of you all. I've been finding results by Google search of these female Imperial Guard offered by Thomas Sexton/Darksoul, as well as the trouble involved with his business etiquette. Never the less, I am interested in contacting him about these female IG conversion bits. Can someone please tell me how to contact him? An email, web link, something?

No idea how to contact him, and after all the problems I and others had with money being taken and no items being sent I'd be surprised if anyone recommended trading with him. You might be able to track him down at www.bartertown.com , but I hope you take into account the risk - go search on Warseer and other major GW related forums to find out more details about whether his recent trading activity has been ok.
