Thanks all!
Just as an update, the local LIPA (power company) CEO has announced his resignation.
He says that it was planned for early September, but strange that no one at the power company knew that!
Supposedly 99% of all the outages have been restored, but there are still people without power (20 days after the outage!).
About 14,000 out of state workers were sent here to assist with restoring power, but LIPA's computers couldn't communicate with them so they were working off of paper maps and spent almost half their time sitting idle because they;
a-didn't know where to go
b-didn't have the necessary equipment (telephone pole, transformer, etc) to complete the work
c-had no way to communicate the problem to LIPA
d-never saw any management people from LIPA to help out with any of this.
So now the Governor of the state in forming a commission to investige the power company and the Attorney General is looking in to indicting the principal officers. Government at it's best!
Oh, and the tree that fell on my neighbor's house...is still there! Local tree companies are charging between 4-6 times their normal rate to remove trees, goes along well with gas stations tacking an additional 50 cents up to 2 dollars extra per gallon of gas.
Aren't some folks just great in emergencies!
But we're getting back to normal around the Time Wizard domicile! And we made it through this storm a heck of a lot better than many folks!
Cheers mates!
