txtspk is the new English.

Just thought I'd big up these changes to the oxford english dictionary.
On websites that insist on correct English language only.. you may now perfectly acceptably drop LOL and OMG into conversations.
Its only a matter of time till r0xx3r511 becomes a piller of traditional old language.

omg txtspk lmao

Ah, the death of the English language :) It has been pwned.
It was only a matter of time I guess. txtspk ftw

I wonder if we'll see some common internet mis-spellings creep in soon to be accepted?

That would be "rediculous" for all intensive purposes.

Was I the only one that read this and thought "he wants to know if 'innit' is innit, innit"?

I heard this in the shopping mall a few hours ago from two girls walking passed:
'I is like finking dat u is like right tho like wot I is thinkin is that wot u said is true tho innit.'

A simple 'yes' is what it meant. Or possibly 'I agree.'

Why use one word when fifty half formed proto-words can crawl forth. I suppose the long delay whilst this bilge was being shunted forward gave her brain time to come up with the next scintillating thought.

Innit isn't half the crime ISIT? used inappropriately is, thankfully its so late 90s I haven't heard anyone use Is IT? as a statement of general exclamation (or acceptance) in 4 years.
E.g.
"Tim's coming"
"ISIT?"
" are you excited and doubting, or confirming and validating my sentence like a nod of the head"
"I don't even know anymore man"
All over the place until recently.

I was under the impression that the phrase "Innit" is just a further corruption of the contraction "Isn't it?", like, innit?

At least originally. Now, it is just a badge of ignorance paraded by the linguistically differently abled.

If cr4p like this gets into the dictionary, at the expense of words like cromulent, then I'll just have to nip off and shoot myself. :D

It is, you are right.

The thing that bothers me though, is that it appears at the end of every sentence for no reason whatsoever.
It's as if some of these people are so thick, they need to ask someone else if what they are saying makes any sense.

"I am going to the shops, innit?"
I am going to the shops is now a question.
Or, do I need to be told that yes, you are going to the shops?

It seems to be our version of the Canadian "a?" = embarrassing, innit?

I weep for the fututre! The mispelling that irritates me the most is their and there. I also hate people that get borrow and lend and learn and teach the wrong way round, for instance can you borrow me a pen? No, I can lend you a pen or you can borrow one off me. :x

English is changing from a language of symbolism, to a symbolic language.

The kids in my gaming club CANNOT manually write a coherent or legible sentence - this is why we don't allow them to use a 'handwritten' army list in the club tournaments (your opponent needs to be able to read it after all).

@ chromedog. There's a mate of mine like that. When we used to go to the GTs he would write his list and background then give it to me to translate it into English. It used to take me ages to figure out exactly what he was on about and I usually ended up rewriting most of it anyway. And he's in his twenties. I must admit though that when I am typing sometimes I have to concentrate to spell things correctly and not as I would when I text. But at least I can form coherent sentences!

i use more text speak when gaming, like lol and omg and the occassional wtf, but when texting, its always full coherant sentences!

for me to write a whole (if you can call it that) sentence using text speak, i need to really REALLY concentrate! its a considerable effort to do it o.O

I call them 'kids' but some of them have reached their majority (IE, are 18, and considered legal 'adults' in the eyes of our glorious leaders) - they're still kids to me - I was celebrating my 21st before any of them were born and hit my double 21 last year, they have yet to reach their first one.

Your v you're, 'of' instead of 'have' (it may be pronounced 'should of' (etc) but it IS 'should HAVE' and is a shorter 'v' sound, anyway.), Their, they're and there - even shore and sure. They're all bugbears of mine, also.

Also, what's with the usage of "verse" as a verb? As in "To verse" someone in a game, or "I versed him yesterday."
To combat this, we introduced a policy of improv poetry for those who use this word inappropriately and incorrectly.
If they wish to "verse" each other, then - by chapter and verse, they shall. :D

We've pretty much wiped it out. One last thing remains. Using the word 'rape' to describe defeating your opponent in a game.

It's not the best thing for a female to hear as she drops in to pick up her boyfriend, or a mother to hear - and I'm not too keen on that usage either.
