World of Tanks

Postby Socaddict » Wed Mar 16, 2011 7:08 am

What's this, an online, semi MMORPG that is currently free to play in beta, where you control WW2 tanks?

With everything incredibly detailed?

Where do I find out more?

http://game.worldoftanks.eu/

I've been playing it for a week or so now, and am really enjoying it. Let me know if you play it, and maybe we can platoon up soon?

Well, there aren't too many French tanks at the moment, just three in use by the Germans.

There are currently 3 forces you can use tanks from - USSR, USA and German. Tanks are organised into both type (light, medium, heavy tank, artillery, tank destroyer) and tier (how advanced something is). You start with the tier one vehicles of each faction (T-1 Cunningham, MS-1 and Leichttraktor). You fight battles, get experience and "credits" which you use to research and buy better upgrades for your current tanks, and better tanks.

You're only allowed a limited number of slots, but you can buy more with "gold" which you a certain amount of each day, and when this gets a full release, will presumably be where the real money transactions come in. This gold is also used for a couple of other things - premium accounts (get more xp and credits from battles, allows you to create platoons, etc), slightly better ammo, and some tanks are not in the normal tech tree, but have to be bought with gold.

I currently have a BT-2, a BT-7, a Leichttraktor and a Pz II (tiers 2, 3, 1 and 2 respectively, all light tanks) and am trying to decide between going for the A-20 and eventually T-34, Pz II Luchs, or Pz III

If you get it, add me to your contacts list, nickname is (surprisingly enough) Socaddict

I'll have to check this out - even the kids' PC will run it although only at minimum as the graphics card is just under the medium settings. My PC should have no trouble at medium, and might even push near the maximum, woo hoo! :D
