Modelling: Pre-Daemonised Heresy Angron Model

Postby DaBoss » Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:40 am

I've been working on my Worldeater list to take to Tempus Fugitives 'Age of The Emperor' campaign weekend.

The way that you build your army gives you 'Legendary Points (LP)' to upgrade your units with special shiney stuff.
One of those is of course Primarchs, I can upgrade a Chapter Master to Angron for 5LP's.

But how would I put together such a model?
(Have looked at other attempts but they are always based on the Daemon Prince Angron)

I looked at the Chaos Marine Daemon Prince & Chaos Daemon Prince models but found them to be too 'Daemonised' as a starting point.
NOTE: He can be either modelled with 2 handed God Tearer or with both Gorefather and Gorechild weapons.

Would like some suggestions on How and what would you use to build the parts of Angron?

And work from there?

EDIT:
Actually, this has a good 2-handed weapon pose + gladiatorial look to start from:

Hmmm,

Do you want him pre chaos or post chaos? I assume there was a point where he was chaos, but not a Daemon? I'm afraid I've given up on the heresy seires as it's too damned boring...

If you're looking for a chaos bod, then Zhufor might work as a base.

Dammit, Bara's Ninja'd me on the loyalist base model!

As to weapons, well, Gorechild's easy as it exists... Gorefather I asume is either the same, or the same but bigger... I think that there are some nice big chainaxes which Ork Commanders have which could work.

I'm going for the 'pre-chaos' look, armour has already gone red but not full-on Khorne allegience (especially as my Berserkers are painted in the White\Blue of pre-heresy)

Looked at the Inquisitor models but they are a bit large compared to WH40K - would be OK if I was showing his 'daemon growth'; most of the book descriptions of the Primarchs state that they stood Head & Shoulders above the other Astartes Warriors and given that a Space Marine stands about 7ft plus I'd guess at a Primarch being a good 10ft tall.

Given that my Kharn model stands 2" tall then Angron would be about 3" tall and on a 40mm base.

Though some of the Inquisitor bits might be useful

I think you're placing too much "faith" in the scale of sculpting ;-)

Greater Daemons are regularly described in the 10-12' range as well (and there's plenty of fluff showing Primarchs as being comparable in size), and GD's definitely don't scale to SMs either. Inquisitor models are on 40mm bases, and comparable in size to the GD models.

Hijack! Sort off. I am also wanting to build a primarch model, and think the scale of the inquisition models is about ok, compares to GD and the avatar, only issue in my book is the missile weapons, would a primarch carry a standard size bolter which due to his size looks like a pistol or does he carry a bolter which fits his scale and I need to think about special rules/fluff for the weapon. This is not a named primarch and I am thinking of using the Artremis model as the base.

Yeah, this is 'heroic' scale, so your heros will likely be biggerer than you'd expect.

Is there anything to suggest that Angron wore 'standard' power armour? I'd expect not given his past, on that basis you could go to other manufacturers quite easily... A few for instances, some better than others...

James is your best bet to have a word with i reckon Phil as he's done some awesome conversions.
Perhaps something with an ogre as the starting point?

I've used a Scibor model for my Lion primarch, as he stands just about head and shoulders over a standard Marine. Also looks so damn cool and is SOOOO much better than I could ever hope to sculpt!

I'll have a bit of a brainstorm for you buddy and get back to you
"Crom, i've never prayed to you before, i have no tongue for it.
No-one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought and why we died.
All that matters is that two stood against many, thats whats important.
Valor pleases you lord Crom so grant me one thing, grant me revenge.
And if you do not listen....then to hell with you!"

Think I have a contender for the base model for Angron

http://www.sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1172

Will have to model him as having double handed axe than Gorechild and Gorefather.

May have to order direct from Scibor as not on Maelstrom site yet.
