Went to the latest Tempus Fugitives Campaign Weekend - The Vampire Counts.
In the pack there was a list for Arkhan the Black and his Tomb Kings Army.
So spent some time digging out old Skull Catapults and Bone Giants (Raf Partha models) and painting up 100 Tomb Guard (Mantic Skeletons and Revenants) along with Arkhan on foot.
Travelled up with Ian (Cannibals of Nagash) and Jamie (Khainite Dark Elves) to Maelstrom for the weekend.
Joined the group of 27 other players (not as many as Stu would like - giving concern that another campaign weekend for Warhammer would not be viable!!!).
Separated into our factions, as I was the only Tomb King player and the other Undead forces did not want to ally with me, Arkhan set sail for the Vampire Coast.
This being a narrative weekend than a tournament things can be influenced or dictated by peoples actions.
Game 1 - Arkhan landed on the beach and raised himself a Tower as base of operations - but was besieged by the Ogre faction - so 3000pts Ogres vs 2500pts Tomb Kings with me holding the Tower.
Brutal game leaving Arkhan eaten by a Thundertusk!!!
Turn 4 - I had a lone Liche Priest in the Tower as his bodyguard had been destroyed during the last Ogre assault, turned to the Ogre players and asked them to roll the dice to see if the game ended - they both roll a 6 - so game ends a victory for the Tomb Kings.
Game 2 - Having reassembled himself, Arkhan descides to go and acquire some artillery weapons from some trespassing Nuln Engineer Army.
As the Tomb Kings slowly march across the table, the Skull Catapults destroy 1 Cannon and 2 Mortars with some superb counter battery fire, while an outflanking Bone Giant destroys another Mortar in combat before being rammed to death by the Steam Tank.
On turn 6 we finally get the major units into combat but no-one is destroyed
Result Tomb Kings give away 350pts while taking 512pts from the Nuln Engineers - Draw (though found out later that if the difference is more than 100pts then its a Win - for some reason I thought it was 200pts?!?
Game 3 - Not satisfied with the broken Mortars from the previous engagement, Arkhan sets his sights on some Bretonnian Trebuches. The Player had built a beautiful all Peasent Army led by a Paladin on Hippogriff (he won best painted army)
Special rules allowed us both to advance under the fire of our artillery - again I manage to counter battery fire a couple of his artillery pieces. I won the roll for 1st turn and managed to charge 11" across the table straight into the Bretonnian lines smashing him to pieces and following through into his artillery. Meanwhile the valiant Paladin charges a Bone Giant and gets swashed between it's fists.
Another Win to the Tomb Kings - but still no workable artillery pieces.
Game 4 - Returning to the beach, Arkhan finds a Lone Dwarf Army trying to reach their ships to leave the accursed land with all the gold collected by his faction!!!
The Player sees my army arrayed before him and asks to parley with Arkhan - he offers me the win and 5 gold coins (the amount you would get for a win) if I let him pass through to his ships. Arkhan is happy to do this and takes the gold. We play the game - Tomb Kings are winning again due to some very accruate counter battery fire killing the Dwarf war machines, but then Arkhan manages to cast Purple Sun towards a 25 strong Slayer unit but rolls a Misfire for distance which results on the Purple sun landing on his own unit and killing everyone but 4 Tomb Guard, now that he can't 'Look out sir' the Dwarves put a pin point cannon ball through him.
Result - would have been a loss to the Tomb Kings - but with the parley counts as a Win.
Game 5 - Arkhan makes a deal with the Dark Elves and is ambushed by the Skaven (who have been hired by the Duchess of Mousilion). The game is brutal and one sided due to some brilliant plays by Jamie - Herioc Killing Blow on a Hellpit Abomination and massed of poison hits from his Witch Elves on Clanrats.
Arkhan managed to suck the life out of Meek Grey Seer with his Reality Bomb (special campaign item).
Big Win for the Tomb Kings yet again.
End result 4 wins and 1 Draw (should have been 4 wins and 1 loss - but thats campaign play for ya)
Surprisingly the Winning Faction was ------- Tomb Kings
I'd played some get Death and Glory strategies just when I thought I could win and that made my score soar (plus I was a faction of one so did not need to average my score across multiple players) - those Undead players should have followed my leadership
A great weekend and the faction win means I get to go to the next Warhammer Campaign for free - which is titled 'Return to the Vampire Coast'.
Now what should I take this time???
Where's the Dogs of War list....
