Winter War - Reading - 12/01/13

Postby Wilzif » Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:45 am

Hello all,

Mentioned to a few of you last week about the one day Warhammer event run by the Spiky Club in Reading in January.

Date has been confirmed as January 12 (a Saturday). It's a 2,400pt event, three games with some comp. Tickets are £18 which includes lunch.

The organiser PM'd me on TWF and I've replied to get the comp pack and rules so I'll let you know the details when I get them. At the moment, they have around 30 people on their interested list, but I don't know how many they have capacity for.

Cheers

Wil

Not sure where you're looking Ian, but the best place to find info on the tournament is here. I'm down on there, and the Barr brothers who used to be Armageddon members are too. Think they can fit in 54.

Hey Guys! count me in!

2 things though, no holes barred sounds like something other than a gaming tournament and that Tomb King Player using one big unit of chariots with 2 lords in, who does that! If chariots don't charge they are dead to any half decent combat unit as they only have str 3 and can't fight from the back ranks, as well as knocking out the chariots from under the characters who only have WS2 T4 W3 Sv 5+, pants!

this has no reflection on your play Will, those Maneaters are not easy to use but are deadly in the right hands!

Agree on the title Q, but I think that was the point!

Tomb King player finished 4th, so he's not too shabby. Yes chariots need to charge (and he would have done had I let him by moving forward into range in turn 1), but don't forget Arkhan and the dual sphinx and sepulchral stalkers he also had. His aim was a combo charge of those units, except I killed Arkhan and the casket turn 1 (and both catapults crumbled too), then I removed a sphinx a turn as he desperately tried to close with me.

By this stage my sabretusk assassinated his liche priest so he could not regrow chariots and then I battered them with a dual charge of maneaters and ironguts. He never stood a chance as by turn 3 he only had the small skeleton bunker in combat with my sabretusk, a damaged chariot unit (Arkhan dead, and tomb prince sniped too), and the stalkers who were hit by cannonballs every turn, not to mention crumble tests every turn.

He didn't know quite how horrendous maneaters can be, lost Arkhan, and that was that.

Another tomb king player finished 9th I think, but he took 2 units of necro knights and lore of light!

Not sure about the winning it line anyway, looks like there'll be some good players there (including our Rob!!).

Mark Borland for one I've played and he is a good player, with whatever he takes. Comp should make it interesting though - 400pts maximum per unit for my ogres. There goes the re-run of the 10 maneaters then!!!
