Blog Subject:  Cain's Blood Angel blog.

I was going to test this out. But I might as well make a first post.
My Blood Angels thus far..

When I posted this on B&C, Some didn't believe I freehanded the banner... So, I painted another :D

Image

I started by under coating with Chaos Black. then I dry brushed the lifted area with Shadow gray, followed by Fortress Gray. I then did a very light wash with Badab Black (which I didn't on the original) because I rushed it a bit.
I then outlined the main features in Shadow Gray.

Image

After outlining the shapes, I painted the robes, border, cross and blood drops in Mechrite Red basecoat highlighted by Blood Red and then Blazing Orange. I shaded them with a 1:1 mix of Blood Red and Scorched Brown.

Image

Next I painted the wing and spear tip with Shadow Gray, highlighting with Fortress Gray followed by Skull White.

Image

After that, I painted the Skull and Arm using Kommando Khaki, hightlighting with Bleached Bone, followed by Skull white. Shading was done with Scorced Brown. I also at this stage painted the halo with Sunburst Yellow.

Image

Once that was dry, I painted the spear shaft and the chalice using Scorched Brown, highlighting with Vomit Brown, with a final highlight of Skull White on the chalice only. At this stage, I also filled out the shield in chaos black and touched up any other areas that may need it.

Image

Finally, I used pure Kommando Khaki to do the scroll/ribbon thing.

I'm playing around with less static poses. But when I do do a static pose, I try to add other details to them. Like the laser sight on this marine.

The Sargent and Heavy weapons Marine are magnetised so I can swap weapon load outs.

Not sure if I add more to this blog by replying, or submitting a new entry. Oh well, try this out.

The original Dante is a nice figure, but completely out classed by the newer figures. So here is my own interpretation.

Lord Commander Dante.

I've used parts ferom the Sang Guard kit. The Inferno Pistol is from the Death Company sprew. And the Wings/Jet Pack are from the Sanguinor model.
For the NMM Gold, I used the painting Technique found in last Aprils WD for the base colour and highlighting. But the shading is my first try with QuickShade strong tone, from TheArmyPainter.com.

Captain Aphael of the Blood Angels 2nd Co. The Blooded.

The Back Pack is magnetised with inter changeable Jet Pack.

Also his arms are magnetised although I have yet to build/paint other weapon options for him.

I would like your opinion ladies and gents.

I bought some Quickshade Strong tone from TheArmyPainter. I got it mainly for Gold Armour (Dante, Tycho, Sang Guard, Sanguinor etc) But I tried it out on Captain Aphael here to see if it would work to a level I was happy with. I haven't used it on previous work (apart from Dante). I am putting a pic for comparison. I painted him the same method as before except I used the Quickshade instead of my regular shading. I feel its come out reasonably well with little noticable difference. It does throw some other problems into the mix though. So, I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Captain Eramus Tycho.

I didn't want to do two separate models to represent his DC and Non DC sides. So instead, I decided to split his colour scheme right down the middle. I doubt I'll be using him in game, but if I do, I'll just inform my opponent which rule set I'll be using.

C&C are always welcome and appreciated.

This is my second squad from Space Hulk....kinda. As I am building them primarily for 40K, and not Space Hulk, I couldn't leave Gidion and his Hammer and Shield as squad sergeant. So I have replaced him with Forge Worlds Commander Cullen figure with a few appropriately added Blood Angel pieces. Do not fear! Gidion along with Claudio will feature in a 3rd squad with 3 suitable conversions at a later date.

Brother Noctis.

Brother Omnio.

Replacement squad leader, Brother Sergeant Nathanael.

Brother Leon.

Brother Scipio.

And the whole Squad.

I have also completed the Space Hulk Librarian. Because Calistarius and Mephiston are said to be one and the same, I chose to name him something different. Being a Babylon 5 fan, I named him Bester after the powerful Psy Cop from the series. Someone on B&C said I should have given him black gloves though, lol.

ImageImage

This is my first Furioso for this project. No name for it yet. Also I intended to replace the regular power fist for the bigger Fist from the Ironclad box.

ImageImageImage

I made this Dread last May, so this is my take on the Graple. Made a external motor mount using the back of the search light from various Vehicle kits. The harpon is the head of HK Missile from the Ironclad kit (No surprise there). And the wire is simply Guitar Wire. I cut the wire right at the eye where it has the nice twist/wind to it. I may drop this in favour of pieces from the new Furioso kit.

Image

I magnetised the Storm Bolter and heavy Flamer so I can switch them out as I chose.

ImageImage

I have already posted these pics on my intro post. But I'll add them here too as its my Blog. Again, I made this last August/September before GW's brick.

For your viewing pleasure, the Stormraven.

And here is a Pre Painted pic to give you an idea of some of the bits used.

As you can see, I have a 2nd Terminator Salvation HK which I intend to make into a Stormraven. But the new one will incorperate some of the official kit.
Also, in the next week or so, I will be adding my 2nd Tactical Squad that I have almost completed. 2 Rhino's, Brother Corbulo (already finished) and 2 Sanguinary Priests (also already finished).

C&C welcome and appreciated.

These are quite simply awesome. I especially like Tycho, the split colour scheme is brilliant. You seem to spent a lot of time making each squad member unique too, which really helps to bring the units out rather than having the same pose repeated over and over.

Hey Guys. I have some new stuff to post. So here it be.

First of all may I present some Sanguinary Priests. First we have Brother Pluvius with Magnetised weapons and back pack of course.

I completed my 2nd Tactical Squad led by Brother Sergeant Golaro. As always weapons are magnetised.

And finally for this post, 2 Rhino transports.

In order to save money, I bought a bunch of second hand models off ebay. I'm stripping them down and cleaning them up best I can to re-paint. A few of the figures in Tactical Squad Golaro and the 2 Rhinos are such.

As always C&C is most appreciated.

Very nice.

I would suggest you post updates as a new entry though, rather than as comments to your existing entry - it'll be easier for people to see you've posted updates, and reduce the number of images on a single page ... :)

Looking great! I love the marine vaulting the pillar, and the light effects on the plasma cannon are fantastic too.

Author:  Cain Tiberius [ Tue Mar 29, 2011 5:24 pm ]

Roger that. I wasn't sure what was best. But will defo do that from now on.

Edit: I have my blog linked on my Sig. If I posted updates as New Posts, would the link still direct peeps to the new posts? Or the existing older one?
