Reforming The Guard

Permanent Linkby Jay on Tue Dec 25, 2012 5:13 pm

Earlier this year I talked about how my guard army is well anything but an army, it's basically a couple hundred upainted/stripped models with bits missing and all kinds of amateurish conversions that in retrospect are total crap. I also had the problem of getting the Ebay itch back when I started the hobby in '07 (I blame King and his wonderful FW cupboard) also it didn't help that Apoc came out roughly the same time and thus I ended up with more Leman russes and Chimeras then I know what todo with. I also hate the Russ design. This leads me to several problems. I've got way to many unpainted, half destroyed models and with the recent small revolution in bitz providers, I have surplus models and kit! So I've decided to sell most of my guard and start again from scratch, well not total scratch.

My plan is pretty simple, use up all the loose bits of cadian kits I don't intend to use and put together a couple of 'Battleforce' boxes worth of points, paint and dip and flog on ebay. In the mean time with the stuff I'm not chucking I'm going to build several armies.

7th Helghan Army - The dream project

This is my pride and joy and will be my 'main' army, I'm almost at the stage of building this army with only the last few bits needed. Mad Robot and Anvil are both releasing guard products next month so chances I'll be ready to go by late Jan (I'm mulling over the idea of getting custom torsos done along side my custom heads) This will be a fairly large army with custom ..well everything and as talked about in a previous, broken down into several mini projects to represent different arms of the Helghast army. This will also include a small winter army, probably a troop choice and a few vehicles.

Red Devils PDF/Drop Troopers

My youngest brother has recently got into the hobby and wants an army knocking up, therefor I'm building an Elyisan/Cadian hybrid army. I'll be using a few custom bits but this mainly made up with Cadian/FW bits. The army will take inspiration from the 101s airborne, Halo, British paras and modern forces.

Pig Iron Army

A few years ago Pig Iron was one of the first custom bit makers and I bought dozens of the heads but no longer have use for them so I'll be constructing an army based upon those heads with a heavy wermacht theme. This one will be based loosely off DkoK and will be to sell.

Steel Legion / Helghast Auxiliaries

I've always liked the steel legion but the models are by todays standards expensive and under detailed. I've put together a few designs and I'm building a custom torso to match the Steel legion using some surplus bits that didn't quite fit the Helghast theme. I'm building enough troops to constitute a small force in there own right but I'll use them in conjunction with my helghast army as conscripts/combined squads with the fluff suggesting there Auxiliaries / PDFs used as light troops. Any heavy/special weapon squads with be used as reserves. I'll keep a couple of Russes that aren't being sold or modified and paint them to match.

Oh and I've just started two space marine armies (one for 40k the other 30k)

Busy year ahead :p

Please excuse my chaotic spelling and grammar, I am Dyslexic, to my friends that means I am retarded and should always wear my water wings and helmet.

Smoke me a kipper i'll be back for breakfast
